Avoid at all costs! I went to this restaurant with my partner, and the experience was awful. First of all, the menu is outrageously overpriced (130 € for two) and there is no à la carte option – you are forced into taking a fixed menu. For a Michelin-rated place, the quality did not live up to the reputation or the price. What really ruined everything was the behavior of the owner/chef: repeated inappropriate remarks about my partner’s weight, mocking my job, criticizing my accent, even engaging in political talk with customers… completely unprofessional and intrusive. I honestly felt anxious just sitting at the table. Right after dinner, we went to another restaurant in town just for a drink, and the difference was night and day: kind, welcoming, genuinely warm people. I honestly don’t understand how some people give this place 5/5. There are far better restaurants in the area, with much fairer prices. The food is not terrible, but it’s nowhere near Michelin quality. Making humiliating comments about clients’ weight is simply unacceptable, and in truth, it reveals a lack of self-esteem from this man. People who put others down often feel inferior themselves. The lady at the service was kind, but the owner’s arrogance and constant intrusion made the whole experience unbearable. If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

This restaurant was recommended by the Michelin guide, and we were not disappointed. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation while they were setting up the tables outside in a very picturesque terrace. The Chef was very friendly with us, and did not hesitate to show us his very lively personality. The starters, main and desert were exquisite with subtle and balanced flavors. If you are undecided about what to order, I would recommend asking the chef directly - he will be honest with what goes well with the starters you are choosing or with the wine you are drinking. About the chef, I could tell that food was his passion, and that he sees his guests as people appreciating his art, not just clients. When I ordered Coca Cola, he jokingly pretended to be offended and told me I am in Italy and should try local things. He then recommended a soda called “Gazzosa” (which is a local version of sprite). Im glad he did not hesitate to suggest this. I highly recommend anyone to try this place. Make sure to book in advance as places are limited. This restaurant seems like the kind of place that is well on its way to get a Michelin star and we were lucky to experience it in its earlier days.

What can I say about this fabulous restaurant? There are not enough superlatives to describe it but I will try. The talented chef, Gege, warmly welcomed us into his beautiful restaurant. From the very first moment we knew that we had found something special. Fabulous interior - comfortable chairs and a beautiful environment with gorgeous artwork and wonderful but unobtrusive music. The menu is limited to three or so dishes for each course - this is because Gege uses only the freshest, seasonal ingredients and therefore changes the menu quite regularly to suit. We had the fava beans soup for starters followed by oricchiette with broccolini - both dishes of the region. We loved them both and couldn't decide which was our favourite. For dessert we had another local dish, creamy ricotta with crumbles, lemon peel and a wine sauce. Again, out of this world. Gege also treated us to some more delicacies of the region, including the little wafer biscuits with almonds and honey, all of which were delectable. Our only regret was that we had to leave! What a gem of a place we had found in Monte Sant'Angelo. We will be recommending Li Jalantuumene to all of our friends and live for the day when we will be back. We noticed that there is a six course degustation menu and are dreaming of returning for dinner one night to partake. The ideal would be to also book a room at Casa Li Jalantuumene, of which there are four, so that we didn't have to drive and could have more than one glass of wine from Gege's wonderful wine list. I wish that all restaurants were up to this standard. Thank you, Gege, for providing us with such a very special experience. You have well and truly...
