Osteria del Norcino — Restaurant in Montopoli in Val d'Arno

Wow! What a fabulous meal. The owner owns the butchers opposite where he makes all his own salami to traditional local recipes. The meal is five or six courses of cured meats, pasta, bruchetta and more finished off with a wonderful T bone steak cooked to perfection. The only issue is making sure you leave enough room for the steak. They have a good range of local wines and will happily recommend what will suit your taste. Absolutely amazing. Luca, his wife Lucia, and their son run this restaurant plus two local maccellerias (one across the road in Montopoli and the other in Palaia). There is no menu to order from. You sit down and they start bringing you food and it’s all incredible. The meat is all produced/cut/cured, etc at their butcher shop and the quality is divine. The family is all so friendly! Durante l'evento medievale del paese, abbiamo cenato all'osteria, accomodati all'esterno. Il personale è stato certamente simpatico, ma il conto finale ci ha lasciato un'amara sorpresa. Il rapporto tra quantità e prezzo è stato decisamente deludente: circa 70€ a testa per una cena che ha lasciato tutti insoddisfatti e quasi affamati.

L'antipasto consisteva in soli tre crostini di numero, tanto che, ancora affamati, abbiamo chiesto il bis a fine pasto. La pappa al pomodoro è stata servita in una ciotolina esigua, e il secondo piatto, tre fettine di maiale contate, accompagnate da fagioli, è stato davvero deludente. La torta alle noci e fichi, infine, aveva una consistenza incerta ed era priva di marmellata, risultando insapore. Il tutto accompagnato da circa 3 - 4l di vino della casa (eravamo piu di una decina al tavolo).

Nonostante comprenda l'importanza di un evento paesano e l'aumento del carico di lavoro che può comportare, essendo io stesso un commerciante, non riesco a giustificare una spesa di 70€ per un pasto così scarso. Se le portate fossero state all'altezza del prezzo, li avrei spesi volentieri, ma in questo caso la qualità e la quantità non hanno assolutamente soddisfatto le aspettative.
