Lake Como Jewel|On our second visit to Lake Como we encountered a real jewel of a small boutique hotel called Al Molo 5 which surpassed our every expectation despite its small size. The hotel itself sits right on the bank of the lake not 70 steps from a ferry stop. The view features the azure blue water backed by mountains some capped with snow in early April. The owners have taken great care to preserve historical elements of what was a fish house. The floors are over 200 years old made with local wood with intricate patterns throughout. Local stone provides mantles and other interesting piece. Despite this historical preservation, every room/apartment is equipped with the latest in modern amenities. The rooms are comfortable, airy, cozy and most feature the fabulous view. Housekeeping was immaculate and pricing reasonable. The keypad entry is a real plus.|An element that cannot be overlooked is the Al Moro 5 Restaurant attached to the hotel. It is leased to and operated by a chef and his small crew for lunch and dinner. The menu is extremely well diversified with delightful appetizers and entrees as well as a special. We ate four dinners there and never tired of the menu. Every dining selection was perfectly prepared and served by two waiters and a proactive manager. Wines were interesting and good according to my wife. I found the prices to be very reasonable even for this busy tourist area. Another real perk is that during good weather, the restaurant serves at the edge of the lake. As a former restaurant owner/operator, I can attest to the quality and tastiness of the food.|Owners Michael and Greta are on site and motivate their small, cheerful and helpful staff to meet any challenge. One made me an envelope from a sheet of paper while another arranged our 2hour lake tour with another delightful guest couple thus cutting the fee in half. This staff is also responsible for delivery to each room the delightful picnic basket breakfast at the desired time. Each guest selects items from a continental menu the evening before and sets a delivery time. We dined on our balcony each morning to glorious silence and gentle views.|The most impressive aspect of Al Moro 5 is the willingness of owners Michael and Greta to take personal interest in every guest and to provide unfettered support to resolve any...
Read moreStayed here for 3 nights. The room was quite small but nicely decorated and finished. We had street view with Juliette balcony. Good a/c, fridge, tv with usb ports. Nice comfy bed with embroidered linen. Only slight gripe is not enough hangers in wardrobe (only 2) and no hooks or shelves to put anything, especially in bathroom. So ended up having to live out of suit cases and wash bags. I would recommend management staying a night in the room and they’ll see what i mean. However, what really stood out at this hotel was the staff/service. Daniella and Gretta were absolutely fantastic in providing a reception & concierge service including sending us information on WhatsApp for ferry times bus times and anything we asked for really. They were absolutely 5 star and really made our stay easier and special and one to remember. The hotel also has its own branded mini van which they use as a shuttle service to Bellagio if/when available and possible. It’s a 15 min drive from hotel or 30 min on ferry. I would recommend at least one ferry ride to get abit of a lake ‘tour’. Would also recommend going to Lenno and seeing Villa del Balbianello but be prepared for abit of a walk and alot uphill. At the hotel there is a mini mart, bus stop and ferry stop all 2 mins walk away. Good choice for breakfast which is served either in room on a tray or in breakfast room. The breakfast room also had a fridge which is filled with bottled water daily which is complimentary. Restaurant downstairs was good with nice views and excellent food/service. Also ate at Bar caffe Errezeta which was ok and next to the mini mart and just do pizza’s as we wanted something quick/easy/cheap. Great stay overall and would fully recommend this hotel, well done and...
Read moreWe can’t say enough good things about our 5 night stay at Al Molo 5 in Vassena. With easy access to all the popular destinations on Lake Como this boutique hotels also offers the quiet solitude you’d expect of a get away weekend!|Marguerita & Marco the owners were exquisite hosts that made us feel so at ease from the moment of our arrival. Nathaly, the manager, could not have been more pleasant and helpful especially when we had some transportation challenges. While the hotel has a rustic exterior the rooms are comfortable, modern & adorned with local decor. It was the stunning views from our cozy balcony that made this stay so memorable. Whether it was waking up to a sun splashed breakfast ( delivered! ) or ending the day with a glass of Prosecco as the sun set on the opposite shore both were magical!|It gets better - the hotel has a wonderful restaurant attached that offers excellent northern Italian cuisine either indoor & outdoor seating immediately adjacent to the lake. The service that included very knowledgeable staff along with the many local patrons indicated that the restaurant had a great reputation.|Combined with what I believed to be very reasonable room rates & food prices along with the ferry landing right in front of the hotel this little bit a paradise nestled in the tiny village of Vassena is a gem!|Grazie Al Molo 5 you made the beginning of or Italian holiday so...
