Never again. Non andarci se sei celiaca!!
They assured me I could eat here as a celiac but 2 hours after leaving the restaurant I had a nausea attack and vomited for two full hours because they either served me gluten or made big mistakes in preparation. Pretentious luxurious restaurant. IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.
To start off: I'm not writing this review to trash the restaurant, I'm writing this review to warn others to never go here - especially in case you are celiac / have to follow a gluten free diet.
I had dinner here Saturday night with friends. Before going to the restaurant we called TWICE to make sure I could have dinner here since I am celiac + vegetarian. We obviously also informed the waiter when ordering.
The first time we called an employee of the restaurant answered and told us we should call again the next morning to speak with his manager as he wasn't sure if they could do something since the kitchen is contaminated with gluten and thus not suitable for people with celiac disease.
The next day we called the manager answered us and told us that it was all okay: that they could prepare something on the spot for me and that I didn't have to worry. When someone tells me something like this I trust that they clean their knives/cuttingboards and inform their chefs to pay attention.
On Saturday we arrived at this "luxurious" restaurant - I can now assure you that the only "luxurious" aspect of this place is it's design, it looks nice but that's all.
Once we arrived the waiters didn't remember/knew I was celiac+vegetarian. They were completely unprepared and in the end I could only get a simple pasta with tomato sauce as a first course and an embarrassing plate of cheese as a main course (let me specify: two kinds of cheese without any kind of marmalade/sauce). I would say besides the fact that I got sick because of their fault, this is already embarrassing for a luxury restaurant.
However, the worst part of this evening was when I realised they either served me gluten or made some major mistakes causing contamination (I think they either served me pasta that wasn't gluten free or boiled it in the water they boil their other pastas in). Shortly after leaving the restaurant I started feeling stomach ache and I started vomiting (this happened twice before, the only two times when I accidentally had gluten).
Once my partner called the restaurant to inform them about the mistake they made (to inform them - because unfortunately mistakes happen, even though this is not an acceptable mistake) the first thing they asked was whether I "didn't just feel sick because I went drinking afterwards" (fyi -- I obviously didn't drink and I know when and how it feels when I accidentally eat gluten). It took a while for them to apologise and recognise their mistake. Truly from start to end a terrible experience.
My intestine now has to heal - I'm still feeling bad after two full days and it will take a while to recover. In 13 years of having lived with celiac disease I NEVER had such a bad experience with a restaurant - I never got served gluten and they always made sure to provide me with a gluten free - non contaminated meal except for here. Truly embarrassing.
Besides my personal experience my friends (and as some other reviews show) told me their food wasn't worth what they payed for. Really, if you can: avoid this...
Read moreWhen I visit Italy, I very much look forward to fresh fish and seafood. In the Maremma, Italians apparently come to Sunset (yes, the name really is that cheesy) for the crudo. Totally underwhelming. I spent most of the time digging through guts and veins. Other reviews mention feeling rushed by the staff, our experience was the opposite. Waited almost an hour after primi for a basic whole orata, which arrived full of bones for an absurdly priced 45€. When I mentioned it to the waitress, they ignored me. Arrogant beyond belief. Kitchen is an absolute mess. “View of Talamone” is obscured by fence and foliage so I am at a loss for what exactly one is paying for. The appetizers are foofy, tasteless and small. We all agreed none of our meals even came close to expectations. There are literally hundreds of other dining options in the Maremma and I regret wasting one of my evenings at this sham of a restaurant. AVOID...
Read moreI had high expectations for this restaurant. It was recommended by a hotel owner as the best seafood restaurant in the area. I read some bad reviews for the restaurant, but thought it might be just bad luck. I found the service to be wanting. When we asked for menu in English, no menu was provided and no help given even though we clearly needed it. My partner ordered wine and when the waiter was pouring it to the wine glass, there was not enough wine in the bottle so only a third was filled. No second glass was offered, but we were charged for full glass. As for the appetizer, I ordered Zuppa di Mare, expecting a new interpretation of the dish. However, what arrived was a thick sauce on the bottom of the plate with a raw shrimp and a few pieces of fish on the top. We left after...
