When I told my uncle about my vacation in Finale Ligure he told me one thing: "Don't forget to eat a pizza at Antonio's, at Il Rifugio on Monte Cucco and give him my regards!" I am glad I did as he told me! I had a pizza as per request and afterwards a tiramisu for dessert. Both were fantastic! You can even watch how the pizza is carefully formed and how every topping is placed precisely where it needs to be. The staff were all incredibly nice and they made you feel right at home! You can really feel the love and effort that has been put into this place in the last 30 years. Every picture or decor piece seems to be telling a story. Wether you are hiking, cycling or driving to Il Rifugio, the food, the people and the atmosphere are definitely worth the trip!

And the tiramisu is something, I’ve never tasted before. The cream….. oh my gosh. It‘s a whole new level for me. They told us, it’s home made. And the pizza chef/owner is so sweet. He goes around the tables and chats with his consumers. He could even said a few words in german to us. :D

Meals are very reasonably priced, the hostess is incredibly friendly (thanks for letting us try the limoncello and the grappa!) and the older pair working behind the counter making your pizza are as fiercely passionate as the oven is hot.
