We've just spent a month in Tuscany and found many fantastic little places to enjoy excellent Italian food but Fontandrone was by far our favourite. We were blessed with wonderful weather so we really got to enjoy the location of this wonderful place. A few kilometres from Pieve San Stefano, perched high on a hill with magnificent views out over the hills and valleys. Everywhere we went in Tuscany we were greeted warmly by these magnificently hospitable people but at Fontandrone they take it to another level. The staff are just lovely - despite my terrible Italian and their lack of English we felt looked after incredibly well and each time we returned ( I did say it was our fave!) we were greeted like friends. We sat outside at a shaded long table feasting on the views and the gorgeous food for hours. Our favourites, which I can highly recommend, included the delicious antipasti plate with yummy salamis, a mixture of lightly toasted bread with scrummy toppings, delicious cheeses with marmellade and honey ( a first for us and totally delicious), the tagliatelle al ragu, the ravioli with butter and sage, the wood oven roasted pork shank and roasted potatoes, and the totally divine mascarpone and chocolate dessert...it truly is orgasmic!! Then to top it all off the most delicious creamy home made limoncello and feisty grappa...and good, strong macchiato. All the produce was fresh, and mostly home made. The pasta is like nothing I've ever tasted before - it's given me the urge to try and make my own and not suffer the usual bought dried stuff. This place is a gem and the prices are incredibly reasonable. It's going to be one of the great eating memories of my life. Do try it if you...

We called for reservation but the woman that answered told us she could not take it, as she was mending the cows. Yes, they raise their own Angus cows. In a very picturesque bend on the road from Pieve to La Verna in Toscana, this B7B is an incredible find. The restaurant has great views from the enclosed terrace. The food is classic Tuscan, with all the dishes you would expect. We had Acquacotta and cold cuts for a starter. The simple but delicious bread soup ( acquacotta) was infused with some fresh porcini mushrooms. The bread was evenly mixed with the tomato sauce. Perfect! I then had Ribollita, a Tuscan version of Minestrone. Lots of winter veggies, all fresh and great olive oil. One of the best I had. Of course, we tried the Angus steak, great testing, nice meat, the right amount of fat. Very very good. But the absolute best dish for me, an ice cream aficionado, was the honey ice cream, served with all sorts of toasted local nuts. I had to have two servings....
