I just found this place on Google again while scrolling and reminiscing our trip to Toscana in 2008… I was driving, it was raining, we lost our way - mind you, there were no google maps and roaming was really expensive! - and I was a very inexperienced driver back then😆So, long story short, I hit a corner of a house and had a flat tire right in front of the Osteria. Montegemoli seemed empty, there was no one to be seen, but… In an instant people appeared, took us to the Osteria, gave us a meal (better say, it was a feast), changed our tire (and later they even escorted us to our destination!!🙏🏻), laughed and chatted with us… We visited them multiple times again during this trip and then in 2014 again with our little daughter. I don’t remember what we ate, but I remember the feeling of tasting something genuine and incredibly delicious, the feeling of hospitality, being at a place where you are a friend. So I just wanted to thank you guys, better late then never - grazie mille, siete bravissimi!! Maybe you remember a blond (then very young) girl with the huge Alfa Romeo😆 and then again 2014 with a little bambina - it was me! Tanti...
Read moreWe were recommended this place by our Airbnb host, and it did not disappoint. Osteria dell’Ultimo is a small, cozy spot right in the center of Pomarance, and honestly, everything about it was fantastic.
We started with a game meat appetizer that was full of flavor, followed by some great pasta dishes, a wild boar stew that was incredibly hearty and rich, and grilled local pork that was perfectly done. Every dish was delicious — the kind of meal that makes you stop and appreciate each bite.
It’s the kind of place you’d never expect to find in such a quiet little town, but somehow they’re putting out food that rivals anything we’ve had in the bigger cities. And the prices? Super reasonable for the quality you’re getting.
If you’re anywhere nearby, this spot is 100% worth the visit....
Read moreYesterday was our first time at Osteria dell’Ultimo Carbonaio and we hope to return again from Ireland to enjoy the experience many times. On arrival we received a very warm welcome and the great hospitality continued throughout the service, including the excellent table service delivered, on occasion, by the owners young daughter (or grand daughter?). This is a family business that puts its heart and energy into providing freshly cooked honest dishes made from the ingredients from the land. Every dish we had (pappardelle with a wild bird ragu, wild boar with olives and tagliata) were all a pleasure to eat. With thanks from Edward and Sandra. We hope to return again...
