Shared a very delightful lunch at this out of the way restaurant on a mountain above a small town 30 minutes from the provincial capital of Piacenza. Firstly, given the location, it was so much cooler up there, only 10 minutes from town, where is was steaming hot. That was lovely. We ate outside, which during this period was a good thing..and we were distanced. We were 6 friends and we were given an antipasto with prosciutto and pancetta and coppa...along with 2 whole salamis put on the table for us to cut as we wished. Salami and coppa from this area of Italy are known to all to be of the highest quality and these did not fail. Wonderful. We all had different plates of pasta, mostly with the mushrooms that are also grown in the mountains in this area in enormous amounts...also wonderful. Then there was duck, in my case, which was delicious. No one complained of their choices...which were accompanied by a Merlot and eventually, many different local liquors. We were glad to see locals, there, which is always a good sign and the service was, in this period, great, informal...all the health guidelines followed. We had typical desserts and more typical liquore. Given that there were 6 of us and what we ate an drank...the bill came out to be about 35 euros a head...which is moderate. Not the cheapest around but hardly expensive. This area is especially "touristy" during the warmed months when people who have moved away come back to the homes they left so it is not so known to the American or UK tourists but it is an easy stop, just 1/2 hour from the main highway that threads its way through Italy and is worth that half hour. I would recommend it to anyone. We stayed 4,5 hours and the staff did not try to ask us to leave so there was no pressure so we could enjoy ourselves. Yes, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and we will surely...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place to dine in the mountains in NE Italy. Ristorante Locanda Cacciatori is located a very miles East of Ponte del'Olio, IT. We arrived shortly before dinner and enjoyed wonderful wine and hors d'oeuvres before dinner. The staff was amazing, the food even better. Even though we were with a large group, service was spot on for the 3+ hours we dined. Between courses we stepped out onto to the patio to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and, of course, the air! LOL Dessert and coffee were also divine, served individually from a tray of selections. We all tried bites of a very desserts! Yum! The restaurant was packed for a weekday evening, a testament to how good it is... highly recommend Ristorante...
