Kostner-Schutzhütte — Restaurant in Pustertal - Val Pusteria

We stayed for the night. The location is gorgeous, of course. The rooms are very clean, the toilet and shower room ( nice and hot water) are ok. Unfortunately the staff we mostly interacted with was not very welcoming and made us feel a tolerated nuisance rather than guests. This is unacceptable and in my experience absolutely not in line with the great hospitality you normally receive (and expect) in a mountain hut. The food was disappointing. Expensive: with some extra (drinks and nibbles) we paid 100 euros each (75 the base rate). I would not recommend the place based on my experience, even though I understand that the main manger Manuel was not there during our stay. Most likely things would have been better...

Il giorno 25/07/2024 siamo saliti a piedi dal passo Pordoi fino alla forcella Pordoi e poi fino sul Piz Boe',poi siamo tornati giu' per le creste e fatto qualche pezzettino di sentiero attrezzato( devo dire che avevo un po' di paura,,,non essendo abituato a questo...)...mi sembra il 638 ma non sono sicuro. Arrivati cotti ( abbiamo io 70 e mio cognato 72 anni...)al bellissimo vostro rifugio,mangiato una fetta di torta e bevuto birra e caffettino,abbiamo chiesto al rifugista(penso sia il proprietario o cmq il gestore) quale sia la strada migliore per tornare al Pordoi. Ci ha guardato e ci ha insegnato il sentiero da cui siamo scesi per un pezzo e poi cmq sempre sotto le altissime rocce del Sella fino ad arrivare al passo ...in circa 2 ore e mezzo. Un sentiero tutto saliscendi faticosissimo,specialmente dopo la scarpinata fatta in giornata,in moltissimi punti franato che non si poteva passare e anche abbastanza pericoloso. Io avevo sentito di un sentiero nel bosco e su prati abbastanza comodo,un po'lungo...(come questo daltronde...)ma...bello e semplice. Il giorno dopo abbiamo fatto il sentiero del Viel del Pan e dal rifugio Gorza si vedeva chiaramente un sentiero molto piu' basso,nei prati,comodo che da sotto il Kostner e sopra Arabba tagliava tutta la bassa montagna e giungeva fino al Sacrario Militare. Ora mi chiedo: PERCHE'??? Perche' questo rifugista mi ha indicato la strada piu' faticosa,piu'difficile,piu' pericolosa dal momento che ha visto la nostra eta' e la nostra stanchezza? E' stata una svista? Una dimenticanza? O forse e' un sadico che gode del male altrui.No questo non lo credo; una persona "cattiva" non ama la bellezza della montagna e sicuramente non fa il rifugista. Fatto sta che per noi e' stata una faticaccia !!! D'altro canto e' stata un'esperienza indimenticabile. Io sono trentino ma quassu' non ero mai venuto, Avete delle montagne fantastiche !!!! Buon lavoro...

Felt unwelcome by wife owner although we called from the States whether it was okay (it was) to reserve just lodging for 3 nights. Overpaid by more than 2 euros (he charged 5) for hot water charged by husband owner. When found out (menu posted on wall) his answer was NO PROBLEM. We left the next morning as the chair lifts had stopped for the day.

We weren't asking for anything more than to be treated fairly. There are other huts on this mountain you can stay at. ...
