This place is the perfect stay for couples and families that want to relax and be treated to an authentic Italian experience. ||||There was a peaceful and calming ambience about Il Pago that gave us the revitalising boost we needed before exploring the cultural wonders of Matera - the cultural capital of Europe for 2019. If you have hired a car in the South of Italy, do yourself a favour and put this one on the itinerary. ||||The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped, but the real gem of this stay is Salvatore's spectacular home cooked dinner and warm hospitality. Dinner was our best in Italy to date, and that's up against some pretty good competition. For 25 euro each we were treated to an unending set of antipasti tipici (appetisers famous to the region), a main with well cooked meat and vegetables, and perhaps the most flavoursome sorbet arancia I have ever tasted. Included in the price was some home made vino and post dinner liqueur. All of the dishes used home grown products from the farm and were served personally with pride and passion by the owner Salvatore. To top off the wonderful dinner was the friendly hospitality and company of Salvatore's family - they were lovely people that made a real effort to make us feel welcome. ||||This place is a wonder to behold and an experience we'll remember for a long time. But dont get deterred by that statement, that actually is the whole point! ||||Salvatore and his entire family will just ensure that you are the princess and prince of the place. ||||Building is great, surrounding are awesome (they are cultivating what they serve you) and the rooms are as per traditional Italian style.
