In my 15+ years of traveling to Italy, this was probably the worst tasting food I’ve eaten. The service was immaculate, the ambience was perfect, and the menu looked promising - but the flavours simply did not deliver.

Agriturismos are meant to showcase local, seasonal, and fresh ingredients. Here, that promise fell flat, replaced by a meal that felt more like a poorly executed afterthought.

It started with brioche topped with chicken liver, truffles, and figs, except it turned out to be fig jam. Maybe it wasn’t fig season, but I had checked before ordering. Worse, the brioche tasted stale, dulling what should have been a rich and indulgent bite.

Then came a vegetable soup with egg, an uninspired bowl with no seasoning. Bruschetta arrived next, featuring watery, tasteless tomatoes, something I didn’t think was even possible in Tuscany. The duck breast was overcooked beyond redemption, tough and devoid of flavour. I never send dishes back, but this was an exception.

And then, dessert, a cake soaked in cloyingly sweet syrup, weighed down by uninspired dollops of cream and a splash of raspberry jam that tasted straight out of a supermarket bottle. Not a single fresh berry in sight. I’ve had store-bought cakes with more depth of flavour than this.

To be clear, this doesn’t reflect my opinion of Salvadonica as a hotel, which is a beautiful property, run exceptionally well, with professional and friendly staff.

But they really need to do something about...

We have started in Salvadonica for 3 nights. The plans were not to eat at the restaurant everyday, but in the end we did it as the first night we had an amazing experience.

The menu is refined and the food is just delicious we had it all, starters, main, deserts and lots of wine.

Vincenzo the maître was absolutely attentive, he always got the time to come and serve us first and explain about the wine and the food. He gave us great suggestions and made us try local products.

The last night was my father’s birthday and it could not be more special. We had a tailored cake made to him with his favorite flavor.

We felt very welcomed here and the attention of all touched our hearts.

We love it!

Thank you to Vincenzo and all the team from La Volpenera for the high quality service and bravo to the chef! The food...

Made reservations several weeks out for a party of seven. When we arrived, they had our reservation and table ready. The atmosphere here was truly amazing. Gorgeous location in the Tuscan countryside and only a 35 min drive from Florence. Everyone in our party was happy with their food, but one dish in particular really stood out to me. The pici noodles with wild board ragu (pic below). I've had plenty of wild boar Ragu in my travels to Italy, but I must say, this was the best I've ever had. If you have kids in your party, as I did with my 4 year old son, then this property is perfect for walking around and exploring if your young one gets board while everyone is eating.

Good service, lovely views, and I think, reasonable prices. The food was either a hit, or a miss. The lasagna was the best I've ever had, the gnocchi was also excellent, however, the tomato spaghetti had very hard pasta and was not enjoyable. The deserts were also poor, the tiramisu was really dissapointing, and wasn't nice, and the mille-feuille was so rich that it wasn't a good desert. An unfortunate end to some of the nicer plates of food served here.
