We found the initial visual impact as we approached the resort to be disappointing and nothing like the photos depicted on the hotel booking website.||||The rooms we were shown felt distinctly damp and uncomfortable. Our clothes felt clammy after hanging in the wardrobe overnight.||||The bathroom left a lot to be desired with an inadequate shower, no shower screen and, as we subsequently found out, it took so long for hot water to come through that we were on the verge of calling the owner to report it as a fault. In addition, the finish around the spa bath was extremely tatty. The final insult in the bathroom was the toilet paper dispenser which was more suited to a public lavatory.|| ||The room we stayed in was in definite need of refurbishment and there were wires coming out of the wall (presumably not live). The main bedroom, which only had a small dirty skylight and not a proper window, featured a services access panel which was sealed with dirty sellotape. The bed was extremely uncomfortable.|| ||We were disappointed to find that the resort services advertised on the booking website didn't really exist. There was a restaurant which didn't open until about 8:30pm and the only way to buy a drink before that time was to walk over to the closed restaurant, knock on the door and ask whoever was working there if it was possible to buy some wine. When we asked the owner how we would be able to get a coffee etc she indicated that we find her and ask. However, given the language issues this was neither a practical nor acceptable solution. There was also no evidence of a snack bar.|| ||As part of checking in the owner took us through the breakfast process. She showed us a table that seemed to be 99% laden with Nutella related products. Unfortunately, both of us hate Nutella! When we actually turned up for breakfast we saw no evidence of the homemade cakes, croissants and jams which are supposedly provided every morning. || ||Whilst walking around the resort there was evidence of what looked like dog mess on the paths.||||Whilst the owner made great efforts to understand our immediate issues and address them, the language barrier proved too much of an obstacle, even with the telephone assistance of an interpreter. However even without a language barrier I don't believe that our issues could have been addressed. ||||On the positive side the meal we had at the restaurant was very good.||||Sadly, it would seem that this is a classic case of our own standards and requirements varying dramatically from those of previous reviewers of this property. We opted to leave after the...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is amazing. If you like peace and quiet and to experience real rural Italian life, this is the place. The hotel is run by a very friendly couple. Sometimes it was a struggle to communicate, but that means you have arrived in Italy and not one of the tourist traps an hour away. The owners booked us into a local restaurant on a couple of evenings and of course the food was excellent and barely a tourist to be seen so great value also. The room is a two level unit with the double bed "gallery" upstairs and two singles on the ground level. The bathroom was fully equipped although basic. This is not 5 star, but certainly reasonable for the price and the setting and views. There is a restaurant on the same site as the hotel but it is run by different people. The food there was top quality - you must eat there if you stay here. We stayed there over Easter and were distressed to learn that it was not open on Easter Sunday or Monday and so we only went there once. It is quite a drive from here to the sites of Amalfi, Vesuvius, Pompei etc, but the 45 - 60 minute drive was worth it to be staying in...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful time at this lovely place! By the time we left we felt we had known the owners for years; they were so warm and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the grounds are beautiful, including the gardens where many of the fruits and vegetables used in the restaurant are grown. Two things to explore: We wanted to take the ferry to Capri but it was not running the day we wanted to visit. So the owner suggested that instead we take another boat down the Amalfi coast. We had driven down that coast before, but this trip was even better--the views from the boat were spectacular. We stopped at the little town of Amalfi along the way, and then got on another boat to the picture perfect town of Positano. Be prepared to buy more than you intended at these places! They have many tempting things, from women's clothing to gorgeous ceramics. Be careful about ceramics purchases--we were assured ours was wrapped to travel with us, but it broke despite being carefully placed in our suitcase between soft layers...
