As you enter Il Boccaccio Osteria, earthy scents greet you, reminding you that San Pietro Avellana is the land of truffles and unblemished terrain. The friendly staff are welcoming and accommodating, making sure to note any food allergies or intolerances while highlighting delicacies that will certainly incite your palate. I started with a warmed truffle caciocavallo - heavenly! The flavors were subtle and delectable. I then ordered my main dish: risotto Carnaroli BIO con tartufo nero di San Pietro Avellana (risotto with local black truffles), where simplicity is enhanced by depth of flavor. Here the truffle enjoys center stage. Accompanied by a local wine from Molise, the meal is a balance of delicate aroma, precision, tradition and creativity. Artisanal is a lack of words for such an amazing experience! My wife and I visited the village on our honeymoon to connect with the place where my great grandparents immigrated from and the chef made a complete connection through the food he made for us. From the fresh cuts of cured meats paired with delectable cheeses, to the locally harvested truffles with hand made pasta, and finished with the best Tiramisu we have ever had, our souls were filled with love in every bite.

Se non avete tempo di andare sulle Alpi, visitate la piccola Svizzera del Centro Italia, l'Alto Molise. Qui oltre alla perla, Capracotta, 1.421m slm, avete a disposizione alcuni borghi che meritano una visita, Carovilli, Vastogirardi con la riserva di Montemezzo dove fa sempre fresco e S.Pietro Avellana, 959m slm, che merita una sosta a pranzo e a cena. L'Osteria Il Boccaccio, infatti vi aspetta e vi accoglierà in modo sincero, prima di affidarvi alle sapienti mani dello Chef molisano Ermes Colecchia e di sua moglie Roberta, dedicata al servizio e alla supervisione. Lo chef vi delizierà a pranzo con ravioli o tortino, per proseguire con carni cotte a bassa temperatura e dolci e gelato delicatissimi. Ottima la lista dei vini regionali e non. Locale carino, sobrio, accogliente, familiare, nel quale si predilige la tradizione molisana, con prodotti tipici locali, riproposti senza stravolgimenti, come dice una frase riportata su una parete del locale: "LA VERA RIVULUZIONE IN CUCINA È L'EVOLUZIONE DELLA TRADIZIONE". Ottimo assortimento di vini molisani DOC, in promis, e ampia scelta per chi volesse gradire vini di altre regioni. La nostra scelta è caduta su un DOC molisano del vitigno Tintilia, il 200 METRI, che si è accoppiato bene con gli antipasti, i primi ed i secondi del menù pasquale con doppia scelta dei primi e dei secondi. Piatti ben cucinati e presentati. Ottima accoglienza, grazie ai consigli delle addette alla sala. Prezzi adeguati alla qualità ed al servizio.
