Alfred - Trattoria Moderna — Restaurant in Sant'Agnello

We were a party of 8 from Canada celebrating a wedding anniversary for one of the four couples. We had just come from a week in Sicily and to be honest we were not all that impressed with our dining choices in Sicily. Alfred-Trattoria Moderna does not take walk-ins. We booked in advance, accordingly. There are too many compliments to write. As we were such a large group trying to decide where to eat every night, it was decided each person was tasked to pick a restaurant and would be judged on the price, atmosphere, quality of the food and service. Alfred-Trattoria Moderna won hands down, so far…and it is hard to imagine anyone beating them. The service staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and made you feel like you were their favourite customers. The food was outstanding-so much so that I will not even make a recommendation on what to order as I am confident if something on the menu catches your eye, it will be great. What really impressed me was when I was trying look through the little pass bar window to see the size of the kitchen. The waiter took me in the back and introduced me to the chef. The kitchen was small but extremely clean. The surprise visit did not phase the chef or his 2 assistants. I was greeted warmly and I thanked the team for their incredible work. With two bottles of wine, 2 extra appetizers for the table and dessert, the bill came...

Oh, what an amazing beautiful restaurant it is! We showed up with no reservation and still wanted to have a memorable nice dinner as we’re already becoming a fan of this cute little town, Sant’Agnello. Alfred’s is such a cute restaurant but also a super hidden gem! Their tables were fully booked as obviously it was for a Saturday night dinner. But they kindly offered us an hour dining slot before all the booking people showing up. The waiters are friendly and with the very good knowledge of their own food & local sources as well as wine recommendations. They also speak very good English (and the menu also has descriptions in English) to help people like us. As a couple visiting the area for a short period of time, our dining experience felt also quite romantic. The ambience of the trattoria is so nice & calm but also warm welcoming throughout from the moment we walked in. The service was amazing. All the food we ordered were served quickly. We even managed to have deserts within our 1hr dining! Needless to say that everything was so tasty and freshly cooked, super yummy yummy. I must say that Alfred’s is one of the best reasons for us to come back to the town of Sant’Angello. A massive thank you to the chef and everyone there. Hidden gem with fantastic fresh food, delightful staff and a lovely atmosphere. We couldn't eat there the first night of our trip as the whole place was hired for a private birthday meal, an indication of how highly regarded it is by locals. We returned to try most of the menu on several nights as the food was so delicious. We would recommend booking ahead as it is small and popular. Great choice of specials each night and if you have an allergy or intolerance it is a great place to come as the menu clearly shows various allergenic ingredients and they are careful to check. Especially loved the bruschetta with four different toppings, the salt and pepper prawns, the taglioni (spaghetti with lemon and prawns), the lobster pasta, the mixed fish and seafood dishes, the tiramisu, the chocolate profiteroles... All fresh ingredients cooked to a high standard by their talented head chef and his assistants. Agostino and Lucia and their mother work brilliantly together, making everyone feel at home and give the place a wonderful atmosphere. They speak excellent English and made every visit special.
