Just ridiculously let down by this place. I’m shocked there are this many good reviews tbh, which is why I felt the need to share my experience. Was greeted by Pino earlier in the day as my client and I passed by. We were told the tapas plates could be switched out between the meat and the fish so you didn’t have to share plates if you didn’t want to. When I came to dinner with two of my clients later that night to eat that was not the case and there was some confusion around what I was asking to do.
The meat and cheese platter for 3 was €33. The tapas meat platter was €24 for each platter and I subbed out the chicken for the fish tartare (thank god bc the chicken was bland with a really taste free mayo sauce.) Was told this platter was for 2 people. 🤔
It took a good 20 minutes to even place our order and from sitting down to getting our food took about an hour. I mean come on. Pino seems to be the only one who could take orders, deliver food, make the cocktails, and print out the checks. I’m not quite sure what his support staff does but it wasn’t much. He kept seating table after table and just progressively getting deeper in the hole. There was little to no acknowledgment of how long the food was taking and only until the end when it was clear I was upset did he apologize for the poor service.
I went out on a limb to bring my clients to this new restaurant and I left extremely embarrassed. We were still hungry when we left so even after spending €95 we had to go to another restaurant to get a pizza and a caprese salad and I spent another €33 to make sure we had a proper dinner.
The prices are quite steep considering what we received and the location/other places in the area. The service was awful. Pino is kind and I’m sure a wonderful person and also needs to hire more team members to do all the various jobs of a restaurant, as well as a faster kitchen crew, instead of trying to run a one man show.
I will never be back and...
Read moreLapillo was one of the restaurants a number of people who stayed at our hotel recommend and was somewhere we hoped to try. If we have a better meal in Sorrento we will do very well. Not a huge restaurant but lovely setting and very friendly staff. The waiter (not sure if he was the owner) told us he’d lived in the UK for 20+ years and was happy to chat. The menu looked great he suggested 2 or 3 small plates As starter or they would double the portion for a main meal. However we both opted for the specials. I had the steak which was so well cooked, it came with some sautéd onions and aubergine, and Laura had the Orzo (as it’s known in the UK) pasta, with a prawn bisque and shell fish. Her face told me how much she enjoyed this. We had a bottle of red wine e recommended by the waiter and shared a tiramisu. Hopefully we’ll be back whilst we’re here. Did t take any photos but other guests did so...
Read moreI saw this cute sidewalk restaurant a block from my hotel and decided to have dinner there. Best meal experience since arriving in Italy! The restaurant opened only 3 weeks ago and the owner is the chef. The menu changes ( 3 options only) every day because everything is fresh and based on what's available. We started with a charcuterie plate, a selection of local meats and cheeses. The server took his time explaining every item on the board and its provenance. It was amazing! We ordered the canelloni stuffed with meat and the fish of the day. Both were mouth watering, like manna from heaven. With 5 total drinks and our food, the tab was only $80, much less than I would have paid back in the USA. Outstanding all around and...
