A historic country house with lots of character but in need of some TLC. Unfortunately we did not get to see the indoor areas properly as there was a private party that took over most of the place. The outside areas are a bit messy with random stuff lying around and chickens wandering everywhere. The room was ok but fairly basic. It was mostly clean other than some cobwebs in the beams. Dinner in the restaurant was just ok. The food was not as sophisticated as the photos on the website. As a restaurant I would not really recommend it. Our experience overall was a bit spoilt by the party - although the hotel contacted us to let us know and offered to postpone or cancel the booking, this was only 2 days before our arrival which was too late to change our plans as we were already travelling. Having spent a lot of time researching accommodation options and having chosen this hotel due to the historic building it was a pity not to be able to fully experience it. There was nowhere to spend time besides the room, which was very small, as all other areas were taken over by the party. Nobody really paid much attention to us as the only guests not there for the party. I also found the hotel not very responsive having contacted them twice to try to book a table in the restaurant. They took a week to reply after the second attempt. This place could be really nice if tidied up and being more...

Read moreReally picturesque historical villa as location with Italian style garden. King and queen of Italy where guests here during IWW. Good restaurant serving gourmet dishes from the chef with excellent service in a romantic candlelight table set in a portion of the immense garden (park). Maybe the chef should work more in the creativity on the territory products having FVG both sea and mountain excellent and unique products, but this is a personal opinion because the dinner was good from entree to dessert. Prices are proportional to the quality, service and location offered, not chip but even not so expensive. Maybe the Paccheri with a tomato sauce (with other elements) offered at 16 euro is a bit expensive but it was so good that I excused the price. We also had the chance to sleep inside: room was large, clean, essential with a lovely terrace. A nice staying. Definitely a place to suggest as base to visit all central and southern part of Friuli. Property is charming and they are a real family managing and working in the villa. The same family manage the unique location restaurant “Casa della Contadinanza” inside (at the top terrace) inside the castle of Udine that worth a visit. This restaurant offer fantastic dishes and a huge Cantina of wines in a...
