While progressing across the causeway connecting mainland Sardinia to the isle of Sant' Antioco, one begins to sense the wildness and solitude all around you. And then double that impression as you wind your way up the meandering path up to Agriturismo Sa Ruscitta. Even more beautiful and peaceful than their website suggests, the B & B sits atop a broad hilltop overlooking an expansive valley filled with olive trees and a cluster of grazing sheep and stabled horses down below. Your host, Valeria, warmly greets you at the entrance way and, in her best English, fills you in on all the pertinent details and shows you all the lovely accommodations available to choose from. The bedrooms are well organized and spacious, the beds comfy, and each room comes with attached bath. Then after settling in, a lovely breakfast of fresh fruit, baked goods, yogurt, cheese, and tea or coffee awaits you in the main lodge. This is also the location where one can enjoy Wi-Fi on the premises. However, keep in mind that you might encounter iffy reception at times - but this is endemic to the island and not particular to Sa Ruscitta. And to delight your appetite, Valeria offers sumptuous evening meals, on selected evenings, in her restaurant perched high above the B & B. Plate after plate of well-prepared, local offerings including seasonal tuna and suckling pig paired with the delicious house wine and a choice of Sardinian desserts served in an elegant setting. Also, do take advantage of the lovely terraces in front of the rooms and adjacent to the lodge where it is possible to read and relax in the lounge chairs and enjoy the playful antics of the feline family on the grounds. Furthermore, if you are looking for a more extended stay or travelling with extended family, a wide selection of homes for rent are readily available at very reasonable rates, which we personally took advantage of for ten wonderful days after a two day stay at the agriturismo. In parting, borrowing words from the renowned Irish troubadour, "Van the Man" - "That's the way it should all happen,"...You got everything in the world you...

Read moreWe spent five nights at Sa Ruscitta and had a lovely time. Our room was simple but comfortable, cozy, and surprisingly quiet. It opened to a shared patio, which in turn overlooked an olive grove. The vibe is couples and small families, mostly European. The property is about 10-15min from Sant'antioco, 25min from Calasetta, and 5-10min to the beaches on the eastern side of the island, by car, which you'll need. A beautiful breakfast is served in a nearby building about 150 meters from the rooms. ||The real treat is the restaurant -- a magical place serving local cuisine for dinner. The grill dishes out meats and vegetables, while the kitchen serves up fresh pasta and fregula. We were partial to the house Carignano, served a little cold, light and refreshing in the summer. We'd eat there every night if we didn't feel like we had to explore the rest of the island. ||The best thing about Sa Ruscitta is the staff, led by Valeria. Everyone was at once warm and professional, making us feel welcome but giving us a lot of privacy. ||Would return in a heartbeat -- in fact, already planning next year's vacation. ||Wifi in the rooms, breakfast place, and restaurant, but little to no cell reception. Which...
