Strongly not recommended. Nice setting, buildings and view - and this is what you will pay a high premium and totally unearned price to enjoy. Service was perfunctory - our reservation created a surprised reaction (that we indeed had a reservation). Table service was minimal and not welcoming. The food is barely adequate and totally uninspired - VERY basic Tuscan options that can be found elsewhere prepared with more attention, fresher ingredients, and at far more reasonable pricing. Three pici alternatives and a pesto ravioli make up the pasta offerings. We shared three dishes - two appetizers (a ‘mixed’ bruschetta that somehow was tomato only, and a vegetable pate), one meat dish (listed as a Chianina beef cut), and a basic green salad side. We had only one glass of wine (the scantiest Chianti pour I’ve experienced in years of visits to Tuscany) and one dessert glass of vin santo. The bill was $105. The bruschetta was very very dry (we did not eat it), the meat was not seared, and the very basic market single salad green was not crisp/fresh. We visit the Siena/Chianti region every other year for month long stays. We have been regular visitors in the region for 40 years, and my grandparents were Tuscan (from Lucca). I know this food, this region. La Torre alle Tolfe was worth a try given its 4.7 google review (who reviews this food and service?). We recommend you opt for one of the endless alternative wonderful...
Read moreLovely meal here. Exquisite dishes rendered without fuss. Enjoyable wine from the estate. Marvellous location, beautiful views across both countryside and Siena city. Lots and lots of locals out walking the surrounding country lanes. If you want a leisurely lunch with space and tranquility this is the place. Also a good destination for those seeking somewhere relatively unknown. I’m not sure the website does the location full justice. In summer you will need to book, but the estate benefits from more outdoor space in the warmth under relaxed lighting and, we are told, a pizza oven. We had carpaccio, hummus di lenticchie, baccalà, pici all’ aglione, agnello, and coniglio. It all was excellent, but I thought my dishes most wonderful: the poached baccalà and the tender agnello (which puts to shame the typical version found even in upmarket restaurants). Carolina, who manages the area, was a brilliant hostess. If you like walking it is not impossible to get here on foot. Much of the road will be very pretty. Like most country lanes, though, you’ll be sharing the street with cars. However, you’ll quickly see that many locals are...
Read moreThe food was amazing , we had sliced meat and a selection of salami and cheese, which were fantastic. We had a reservation for 8:30 PM and arrived on time. However, since we were not hotel guests, they asked us several times whether we had a reservation which is understandable but it seemed no table had actually been set aside for us. Fortunately, one became available just as we arrived. It took quite a while for the table to be cleaned, so our order was only taken around 9 PM, and the kitchen was closing at 9:30 PM. We also ordered roasted potatoes, but after about 45 minutes, they informed us they had run out and offered vegetables instead. They serve wines from their own vineyards, which we really enjoyed.
All in all, the food was perfect, the atmosphere wonderful with a view over the Siena vineyards, and their wine was excellent. That said, we believe they could show a bit more attention and organization, especially for guests who are not staying...
