For those who are like myself, accustomed to the kind of sandwiches typically found at gas stations in other European countries, an Autogrill sandwich is always a treat. This 'Bufalino' with mozzarella and Parma ham was no exception. Followed of course by a good espresso.
Later we visited an art exhibition at a spacious municipal exhibition center in Prato, which from the outside resembled something of an water park attraction, albeit (...) instead of water. The exhibition commenced on the first floor with a curious looping home video montage of young boys playing with toy pistols. (...) set a tone that made me curious about how the rest of the show would answer. In the following (expansive) rooms, several kitschy, color glazed ceramic figurines of slumbering (my friend thinks they're supposed to be dead) dogs hung in the middle the large walls, instead of on the floor. (...) I wondered whether these dog figurines might perhaps be (...). An audacious installation. I presume this concept (...). (...) (...). Quite many walls with the vertically sleeping dogs followed, (...). Towards the end was a room with a audio/video projection featuring meticulously crafted mole puppet animatronics in a bedroom setting. The blind moles appeared to be reading each other a 'bedtime story,' yet they were reading and repeating seemingly random numbers to each other from sheets of paper (...). According to my friend they were failing at some kind of math problem. It's exquisitely made. The film seamlessly continues where it ends, looping almost imperceptibly, as little else happens. I found myself pondering (...) yet nothing transpired beyond a few animated moles reciting a mysterious numerical sequence. (...) up to the public (...) as often is the case in contemporary art videos? I don’t know. Off...
Read moreIn short, the cashier lady did the good old 'don't give the customers their change so you can pocket it at the end of your shift' trick.
Long version: Be careful here; I got some food, went to the counter and paid in cash. The cashier lady (I should have got her name) owed me €10 in change, but she told me she didn't have it on her cash register so she told me to have a seat and she'll give it to me later. Before walking over to where the tables and chairs were, I stood behind her for a few seconds and when she opened her cash register I noticed there WERE €10 notes in there and plenty of coins (either would have been fine). The next guy after me even paid her with a €10 note! But I still sat down and waited... and waited... for about 30 minutes. I then looked for her (she conveniently went to a different section), found her then she said 'I'm getting your €10 now' (in Italian) then gave it to me.
I don't care too much about the money, it's the principle of it. It's what some cashiers do (not just in Italy, France too) that I...
