Ristorante Trattoria Il Capanno — Restaurant in Spoleto

My wife and I made came here for lunch on our way back from Spello to Rome before heading home to the US. We wanted somewhere special on our last day and Ristorante Trattoria Il Capanno was the perfect place!

We made a reservation online weeks prior and when we arrived we were immediately greeted by name as if they were waiting for us! The service was impeccable. Even though we do not speak Italian the server was still attentive and helped walk us through the menu the best they could. He also provided a link to the website menu so we could use our phones to translate.

The location itself is out of a fairytale. It is absolutely stunning. Up in the hills away from the highway, but a very easy drive. When you arrive the restaurant is the only building in site and completely secluded. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, but we chose to eat outside on the gorgeous terrace. We came for the lunch hour at 1:30 and ate alongside only 1 other couple. It felt like a private lunch on in someone’s beautiful Italian villa (because it was)! The service was impeccable and we felt so special and welcomed.

For food, we chose the Fettuccine al ragù bianco di Piccione (Pigeon Ragu) and Passatelli con vellutata di pomodori arrosto, stracciatella di burrata e basilico. Then we had the wild boar for a second course and espresso to finish. Everything was absolutely incredible. We thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and location and would have been fine paying even more for what we got!

Di rientro da Roma verso Fabriano, visto l'approssimarsi dell'ora di pranzo, abbiamo deciso di modificare il percorso che il navigatore suggeriva lungo la E45 per Perugia deviando sulla direttrice Terni - Spoleto prevedendo di transitare in cima alla salita della Somma proprio per l'orario di apertura della Trattoria al Capanno di cui avevo sentito buone cose. Il ristorante, che in estate può vantare un notevole spazio esterno in mezzo al verde, ha un ingresso abbastanza ordinario mentre all'interno la sala molto ben organizzata intorno ad un grande camino con il cippo regolarmente acceso. Iniziamo subito un primo piatto che ci avevano decantato ovvero delle tagliatelle al ragù bianco di piccione, decisamente deliziose. A seguire, su suggerimento dell'oste, proseguiamo con due arrosti di spalla di maiale al finocchietto selvatico, contornato con patate cotte sotto la brace ed erbe di campo ripassate in padella. Porzioni generose al punto che resta solo il posto per un caffè. Soddisfatti chiediamo il conto e per errore ce ne viene portato quello di un altro tavolo di cui mi accorgo solo uscendo, dopo aver pagato il conto, notando il costo di una bottoglia di vino non consumata. Tornato indietro per segnalare l'errore il titolare si accorge che il conto è quello di un altro tavolo e chiedendo più volte scusa per il disguido procede con il ristorno della somma pagata e a stampare il conto corretto, 87 euro per due persone, direi in linea con la qualità del cibo e l'accoglienza del locale che fa parte del circuito delle Premiate Trattorie Italiane. Amazing location and amazing food! Went there several times and never got disappointed. Staff members very friendly and kind. Grilled porcini mushrooms, fresh pasta with truffles and mushrooms, grilled indivia and rosemary tagliata on our table today, all delish. Not to mention the wild blackberries crostata with home made vanilla icecream… Wine selection is also serious stuff, for connoisseurs and entry levels alike.
