I needed accommodation for two nights in Suzzara as my husband needed to be operated at his foot unexpectedly at the Suzzara Hospital after having broken a bone during our holiday in Italy. Mangiare Bere Uomo Donna was what I chose after consulting TripAdvisor. The bedroom was very spacious, well furnished, extremely clean and quiet (the good quality windows ensured the Friday night noise coming from a venue nearby stayed outside). The bed was superb. the breakfast was adequate: good Illy coffee made by a pod machine, juice, yogurt, cereals, ham, toast, butter and jam and homemade cake. I would have preferred a higher quality bread, what was on offer was a commercial sliced bread which comes in plastic bags. The second morning I was the last one to have breakfast (it was only 7,30) and the other guests had eaten all the cake already (my fellow guests should have realized there was one more guest who might have wanted a slice of cake as my breakfast place was set on the table). All in all these were not big issues for me. The second night I decided to treat myself to a meal at the restaurant downstairs. The decor of the restaurant is very pleasant, relaxing and inviting. There is also a huge bookshelf from which books can be borrowed during your stay. The service by the owner, Corrado, is very personable and professional. The menu offers a selection of both local and asian dishes. I tried the homemade 'spring rolls' and the homemade tagliatelle (ribbon pasta) with duck ragu' and enjoyed both. The salad (not on the menu but the kitchen fulfilled my request) was served with an excellent balsamic vinegar, aged 7 years, which can also be purchased if you want to take a bottle home. For dessert I chose Torta Sbrisolona, a local nut cake which is often badly imitated but this one was truly excellent, possibly the best I ever had. You can feel this young couple is full of passion for food, drink and hospitality and they want to do it right. Corrado is a local and I detected his love for his birthplace and its people, food and traditions but he has also traveled extensively around the world. I would highly recommend Mangiare...
