I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, the old style, castle like walls and furniture. In my opinion, the strange fake garden with the little pond and the plastic decoration is a no-go. The pretty round arches in the courtyard are used as storage room from what I could see. They are covered with reed mats, which do not fit at all and destroy the historical atmosphere of that place. The inner part of the restaurant looked like not used in a long time. Strange decoration here as well: big yellow thermometer. The waiters were very friendly and professional. The food was okay beside some little technical mistakes: warm chocolate was served with almost melted ice cream and only a little spoon, no cake fork. The soup with the various bread dumplings (canederli) would have been awesome if they canederli would not have been drowned in butter. Same for my main dish, gnocchi with blueberries. Very tasty but too greasy. Made me feel sick in the evening.
The cleanliness in the whole restaurant was... Let's say, not convincing. First, I recognized the dirty water glasses and wine glasses on the table. Later we got plates which did not seem to be properly cleaned. Most shocking thing was the toilet. Not only that there was just one tiny room for men and women. The furnishings seemed broken and old (see photos).
From my opinion, a nice place with a lot of room for...
Read moreWe had dinner here and would like to share our experience. We just walked past by on our way to the castle and really liked that they make all the local specialties so it seemed worth to come back. Even though the service was good, the bill was a bit too expensive in my opinion for the foods we got, which were not tasty. We both like eating a lot and sometimes we find foods that we don’t like, but it rarely happens that either of us cannot even finish half of their food because it’s simply not good. On top of this, they have a mandatory 2.5€/person service charge, and even though water was given with the impression that it’s complimentary, they charged for it too. Top this off with a barking dog at the other table. I don’t understand why they let people bring in their pets, especially loud ones, who likes...
Read moreA big unexpected fail may be a useful reminder of how hard it is to run a restaurant that really works. Past the doors of the idyllic patio with fountain, so much was wrong at la Cantinota: disengaged waiter never brought the promised additional bread for antipasto misti ordered because of the 30 min wait for risotto (!), which turned out too salty and mushy, canederli were dry like chewed gum, wine was poured into such large glasses that it looked and was skimpy--not to mention the fish in the pool with a skin problem and the toilet door that didn't lock... Small dysfunctions may happen, but such a string of them on top of missed classic recipes is unacceptable for the hefty price asked. So, overhaul needed in the kitchen and please get the loo door fixed and the fish...
