Trattoria da Gianni — Restaurant in Teulada

The location by the water is really lovely and the paired back and unpretentious decor is also to be commended. What is not to be commended is the somewhat grumpy and unwelcoming manner of the older server (perhaps Gianni?). We had the feeling that he did not tolerate tourists very well; even if this is not the case we weren't made to feel very welcome. The food was OK but somewhat overpriced based on the presentation and portion sizes. We ordered the muscles but were given the wrong order and after pointing this out the older server grumpily took away the clam pasta and appeared seconds later with the muscles we had ordered. All without uttering a word of apology as if he was irritated by the bother we had caused him. The muscles were however excellent, the pasta dishes were of medium quality but extremely small. After paying the bill, including the tip we left without any kind of goodbye greeting, still hungry and definitely not with the feeling, that regardless of everything, it was money well spent after an enjoyable evening. This restaurant got recommended to my family by locals. It is next to the sea at the island’s Southern tip. This is not the next tourist trap but a business that attracts a predominantly Italian clientele that arrives between 8 to 9pm. Fresh fish arrives here on a daily basis - my polpo con patate (pictured) was as delicate as it gets. Can’t recommend the swordfish with tomatoes enough either. We had a 5dl bottle of Vermentino - it could have been a degree cooler but it was of excellent quality (a very different affair when compared to Vermentino by the glass that is available everywhere). Cibo molto buono seppur leggermente caro. Ma sul prezzo si potrebbe anche sorvolare vista la qualità delle pietanze. La cosa invece molto più grave è la negativa accoglienza, per non dire maleducazione, del signore che ci ha accolti (credo Gianni). Arrivati sembrava quasi infastidito della nostra presenza (sig. Gianni se non fosse per i clienti che pagano per mangiare da lei molto probabilmente non avrebbe sostentamento per mandare avanti la sua attività) perchè non avevamo prenotato. Peccato che il pomeriggio per svariate volte abbiamo provato a telefonare ma nessuno ha risposto. Ma alla fine se non si ha disponibilità di posti non c è nessun problema. Basta essere EDUCATI e gentili e magari uno ritorna successivamente. Dopo qualche lamentela ad alta voce davanti a tutti gli altri clienti (cosa che mi ha fatto sentire davvero a disagio) ci fa accomodare, ci porta i menu e una volta ordinati i piatti mette in chiaro che non si può più ordinare perchè la cucina avrebbe chiuso a breve. Seduti vicino a noi c'erano due amici del cameriere (credo figlio di Gianni che a stento trattava con cortesia i vari commensali, mentre con i suoi amici era simpatico, chiacchierone e servizievole) e per loro invece massima cortesia, massima disponibilità cucina a disposizione. Alla fine prendiamo quindi solo una frittura ( al costo di 24 euro) e uno spaghetto alle vongole ( al costo di 19 euro). Per fortuna le portate erano davvero buone, almeno visto il prezzo e vista l'accoglienza ricevuta il cibo ha meritato il nostro tempo e denaro. Davvero un gran peccato, perchè seppur la qualità c è manca tutto il resto e non mi sentirei mai di consigliare questo posto.
