Fiorfiore Restaurant — Restaurant in Todi

This was by far the worst restaurant experience I’ve had during my many visits to Italy over the years. This occurred 8th September 2025.

First, the food was good. Not excellent, but certainly not the standard I would expect from a Michelin recommendation. The price was reasonable.

However the service is beyond redemption.

Before my tirade begins I want to point out that the female waiter on duty was extremely helpful and polite. Sadly she seemed to work with two individuals who should be ashamed to tarnish her with their bad attitude.

To begin with, the waiters served us water, but in doing so spilled it on the table while pouring each of the four glasses. We asked for another bottle, which never came. What proceeded was 30 minutes of no waiter attention whatsoever. No menus, no bread, no drinks, no more water. When finally we succeeded in catching one waiter’s attention, he simply blurted out “yes, what can I do for you?!” Our response, incredulous, was “well, we would like to order some food please!”

Over the next 90 minutes, the two waiters spilled wine every time they poured it, including on our phones, thrust menus at one individual’s face while she was mid-conversation, dropped plates on the table without asking where they should go, sometimes even handed plates directly into our hands, shouted at each other while standing at our table, and, finally, eavesdrop on — and reply to — our private conversation. The ‘somelier’ smelled the wine cork but then poured a full glass without allowing us to check, and then, when one of our wines was not available, decided to bring a different wine to the table instead of advising us first.

Fiorfiore è il ristorante di Roccafiore Wine Resort & Spa, incantevole tenuta situata a pochi chilometri di distanza dal centro storico di Todi, in Umbria. Come anticipato, la location è davvero bella: una tipica dimora di campagna in pietra, immersa nei vigneti delle colline della bassa provincia di Perugia. Da segnalare la bellezza dello spazio esterno dove si pranza e cena in estate. Un altro punto di forza della struttura è il personale di sala, presente e disponibile, oltre che gentile e molto professionale. Corretta la tecnica di servizio, sinonimo di conoscenza pratico-teorica dell'arte del "servire". Segnalo inoltre l'eccellente passito della casa, prodotto in struttura dalla Cantina Roccafiore. Il ristorante è segnalato dalla Guida Michelin e qui arriva la nota dolente: la cucina non mi ha pienamente soddisfatto, purtroppo aggiungerei. Il menu è studiato e denota buona padronanza delle basi unita a piacevole personalità e intraprendenza. Ciò nonostante, a livello pratico si può - a mio parere - migliorare. I paccheri di Gragnano con crema di cipolla e guanciale di Cinta - che potrebbero ben rappresentare una sorta di reinterpretazione della pasta alla gricia - sono concettualmente un grande piatto, ma serviti con la pasta cruda (mancava circa 1' e 30'' di cottura per una pasta al dente). La spalla di maialino cotta a bassa temperatura con cipollotti gratinati e purea di carote è un bel piatto che unisce tradizione e tecnica moderna, non costerebbe nulla passarla in padella, durante il servizio, con un fondo da accompagnare poi per evitare una carne troppo asciutta come quella servita. Ottima sotto tutti i punti di vista, invece, la cheesecake con zafferano di Todi, crumble al saraceno e frutti di bosco: mi tolgo il cappello, chapeau e faccio i complimenti. Di conseguenza, nonostante l'ottimo servizio e la location magica, il conto risulta salato in proporzione all'esperienza. We went here with a group of nine people because the restaurant was recommended in the magazine, falstaff, which is a specialized wine magazine. The wine selection indeed was very comprehensive. However, as we ordered a 40 year old red wine, they did not have a decanter. I was very surprised by that. Also they regularly forgot to pour the wine and simply opened the wine bottle and left it on the table 😂 with some bottles we ordered being at 100-200 eur each. Very weird.

The food was good the location was amazing.
