Incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. It is beautifully situated on a hillside overlooking wonderful Umbrian countryside.
However, the whole experience was an unmitigated disaster which ended up with us leaving without having finished the dinner.
The meal started badly and got worse. We were presented with stale bread and flavourless Olive oil (which tasted like something from the Tesco value range) to kick things off.
After having placed our order we were told that the chef apologized but he'd finished all the potatoes so he could only offer us fries. We were the first to order in the evening service so that was a difficult one to understand unless the chef had organized a baked potato party for himself where he was the only guest
Then things got very weird. I ordered a beer which was forgotten, pre-ordered forgotten again until the waiter informed us there was no beer in the restaurant and someone was trying to find one elsewhere on the premises. A beer then turns up around half an hour later.
Onto the pasta course. My lamb ravioli was fine. My wife choose not to order pasta but the waiter decided to bring her secondi at the same time as my pasta. We asked for this to be brought with the other secondi which, after some pointless debate, he agreed to.
Unfortunately, when both secondi arrived they were stone cold. The waiter had presumably just left my wife's congealing at the pass and, as with everything else, forgotten about it for another half an hour along with my own main dish.
So, again, the waiter apologises and says they will prepare fresh dishes. By now we had been waiting almost 2hrs for mains. Eventually they arrive again and we see that rather than preparing fresh dishes the kitchen had simply reheated what was previously served. Not only is this unprofessional for a good restaurant, where my wife had ordered liver you just can't reheat this type of dish as any half competent chef would know.
At this point we were hungry and fed up so we decided to leave - not before the waiter (for the first time that evening) sprang into action to waive our bill in front of us. Paying €70 to leave grumpy and hungry did not feel like good value to us.
For a much better experience we'd recommend Kairos Cafe which is only 15mins down the road and serves delicious, authentic Umbrian cuisine with...
Read moreWe were residing at Borgo Petroro for 9 nights last week. The hotel is impeccable and we happened to eat at the restaurant for 4 nights. My husband and my two teenage children. We love fine dining and visit many restaurants and can assure you that the experience at Petroro was always excellent, fine dining at its best.
The food IS delicious, original, and fresh. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. They try to meet all of your needs. The ambience is just perfect. We also were very lucky to meet the chef who is a very kind person and prepared our last dinner as per our request (since it was our 4th time). So I wonder what a person can ask more for a dining experience.
I read the previous review with sadness because it is so unfair and so untrue!
As a conclusion, I strongly suggest you go to this restaurant because it is 5* from the moment you sit down...
Read moreWhat a Restaurant! It is an absolute privilege to have Chef Glowig opening a restaurant in Todi, bringing the local restaurant scene to the next level. The Locanda is elegant, in a beautiful setting with impeccable service. The menu is original using local ingredients with a perfect gourmet twist which remains in keeping with Umbrian culinary heritage. Chef Glowig comes to the table at the end of the meal which is a lovely personal touch and is a place that i see myself going back time and time again every time i am back in Umbria! To top it all the price is totally reasonable which is always...
