Ristorante & Pizzeria Al Valico di Chiunzi — Restaurant in Tramonti

Excellent local Italian restaurant, serving genuine local dishes, frequented by the locals, unfortunately upon my last visit, the service lacked attention and really pushed the boundaries of relax dining to the limits. It took two attempts to collect our order because initially the waiter forgot to provide us with a menu. As for the main, we had to prompt passing waiters three times to ask when our order would arrive, to which they promised, it would arrive shortly. Looking around, we noticed we were not the only ones enquiring where their order was, after being left waiting an excessive time. After an hour and a half wait, we gave up on the main, paid for our starters and left. When I asked the manager why our order had not materialised, he said the restaurant had not anticipated the number of diners in attendance. There was no apology, for him it was perfectly acceptable to allow customers to wait indefinitely for their meal. It would of been nice if we were advised on entry, that there was going to be a long wait, so we had the option to stay or eat elsewhere. We never made it to the food. Pizzeria but no pizza for lunch. Ok. We sat down to look for an alternative. We were visibly busy reading the menu but a young waitress asked us if we were ready at least 4 times. We felt being rushed even though it was only 1:30 pm. Then they took the order but came back some minutes later saying my choice was not available. She pressed me to have fish even though I told her at least twice I did not want fish. Then we decided to cancel my partner’s order and leave, only paying for the 1L bottle of Fanta we had ordered. Then the waitress became openly rude and we were charged 10 EUR even though we only consumed a 1L Fanta (obviously just some of it). We were told we had to pay 10 euros because “we sat”… I get that there is a service charge but I wonder how much that could be if that plus a litre of Fanta was 10 EUR… Do not recommend even though the food maybe good (it looked good on other people’s plates). Fresco e buon cibo, passando per il Vallico di Chiunzi, ma dormirci nei giorni clou può risultare difficile, impossibile o molto costoso.

Valico di Chiunzi. Raggiungere la costiera Amalfitana, Majori, Minori o Ravello, può risultare davvero speciale, sia di giorno, che di notte, per gli splendidi paesaggi. Chiaramente il guidatore non potrà osservarli, se non correndo il rischio di vederli troppo da vicino. Occorre, difatti, attenzione: le curve del passo dei Monti Lattari, che collega l'Agro nocerino-sarnese con la Costiera amalfitana (attraverso i comuni di Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino e Tramonti), in provincia di Salerno, sono decisamente pericolose. Scendendo verso il basso si incontra il Ristorante "Al Valico di Chiunzi". Consigliato: prezzi convenienti, locali freschi anche con il caldo più forte, vino locale discreto e qualche buona pietanza, sia di montagna che di mare: Linguine al valico di Chiunzi con cipolla, olive verdi, pancetta, funghi porcini, pomodori, corbarini e basilico. Calamarata con vongole o gamberetti, zucchine (o fiore di zucche di tramonti), prezzemolo. Una buona sosta, specialmente quando si cerca dove dormire. Difficile, specialmente nei giorni clou può risultare impossibile o molto costoso. Dopo la bella sosta al ristorante, continuando nella discesa si cerca intorno un bed and breakfast e si incontra un bel cartello, all'ingresso di Majori, con l'elenco di quelli presenti. Un fatto: andrebbe revisionato, in quanto molti dei numeri sono vecchi, o, forse, alcuni dei locali riportati, hanno chiuso. Occorre anche rimarcare che molti prezzi sembrano più per stanze di alberghi a cinque stelle. Tutto occupato. Viene fatto di pensare che almeno per alcuni la crisi economica non sia presente. Scendendo al mare ci si imbarca nel problema parcheggio. Se si fa una "toccata e fuga", forse il costo delle soste supererà quello delle spese al bar. A proposito: Il "Cafè Europa" è un bel posto per fermarsi e guardarsi intorno, bere qualcosa, godersi un caffè e, volendo, un buon panino "al volo", una pizza, bruschette. Guardandosi intorno, appunto, un consiglio: il grande spazio espositivo di Vittorio Ruocco, in Minori, negli ampi locali di vendita posti sul lungomare, dove ci si incanta per la varietà delle opere esposte, cresciute di numero e tipologia, fatte per accontentare qualsiasi tasca e desidero o necessità. Lo studio si può trovare percorrendo i vicoletti di Minori; un laboratorio che l'artista inaugurò nel 1985, a soli 23 anni. L’arte della ceramica è certamente una delle più antiche e più belle tradizioni artistiche, la si ritrova anche a Minori e, a costi variabili, persino su ordinazione con le sigle di famiglia o disegni fatti ad uopo, per cui il turista può portare con sé un pezzetto di Costiera....
