This could be something special. It isn't. The island (Maggiore) in Lake Tresimano is stunning, and for those (like us) with boat access it looks the part when touching land. The service at the restaurant is appalling, however, and no-one appears to care one way or another about the customer - so long as they are ordering and paying. This is simply not good enough - particularly when there are choices to be made, and alternatives available. We would not go back - so slow, lazy and uninterested were the staff. When suggesting changes might be made, a waiter (who did not serve us) observed "I'm not the owner; it's not my problem". Now, the owner may not care to know this - there is sufficient business during the season, I'm sure - but for anyone thinking of going back to the lake (again, like us) De Sauro is making a huge mistake when failing to train their staff better. Read moreWe visited Ristorante da Sauro for lunch on the recommendation of our Airbnb host (who resides in nearby lakeside town of Passignano sul Trasimeno). You will find that, for many visitors, this establishment is the "main attraction" on Isola Maggiore. In peak season, follow the well marked path from the pier to the patio and garden filled with well set white cloth covered tables. The abundant area will fill quickly. The attentive and talented staff deftly manages the waves of customers. Our meals were satisfying. The lake side setting is exactly what we came to see. When you are finished and ready to pay you'll walk over to the main building and see that the complex is vast, hunting that this operation is beloved by...
