La Bottega del Chiu — Restaurant in Unione dei Comuni Amiata Val d'Orcia

We went for lunch and liked it so much we went back 5 hours later for dinner. This is a special place with excellent food, wine, beer and warm, extremely competent service. They make you feel like they’re letting you into an amazing family dinner, only the cook is a highly trained chef. The chef brings up dishes occasionally which was great because he could explain why our porcini and chestnut soup was so delicious - deepest, richest mushroom broth I’ve ever had. Antipasti were quite good - bread and egg polpette, crostini cibreo, bruschetta pomodori - as were the pasta and pizza. I loved the bread - made with chestnut flour by the owner - and the bruschetta - made by a delightful server. It seems everyone can cook at La Bottega. I cycled 110kms to Radicofani and arrived at 8pm in the pouring rain. La Bottega del Chiu was the only establishment open and half the village seemed to be there enjoying food/drink. I naively thought it would be easy to find accommodations but Radicofani is a super quaint village with few hotels/hostels, which were closed at this time. The Bottega del Chiu saved the day! With the help of Ludvigco and others, I was able to find accommodation for the evening. Finally, I sat down and enjoyed a vip Italian food/cultural experience in this fine restaurant. Stiamo stati in questo locale il 27/04/2024. Benché io non lasci mai recensioni qui va fatto. Abbiamo chiamato per prenotare e ci hanno dato il secondo turno delle 21:30. Siamo arrivati con largo anticipo perché erano le 21:10. Il proprietario molto gentile nell'attesa ci ha portato 6 calici e una buona bottiglia di vino sul tavolo all'esterno. Dopo è iniziata la nostra avventura. Siamo entrati nel locale alle 22:20 quindi quasi un'ora dopo, ci siamo accomodati al nostro tavolo e dal menù che ci avevano messo poco prima sul tavolo abbiamo scelto ciò che volevamo mangiare. Peccato che poco dopo è arrivata credo la proprietaria dicendoci che in cucina era rimasto poco. Ci ha dato una sola opportunità di primo che nessuno aveva scelto ma che poi in 2 hanno dovuto ordinare e il resto pizze. Una delle paste galleggiava in acqua e la pizza è stata mangiata dalla fame visto l'ora. Uscendo la signora ci ha chiesto se tutto andasse bene e gli è stato ovviamente detto di no e abbiamo detto ciò che non andava bene, la locandiera invece di accettare e magari chiedere anche scusa alla nostra critica ci ha anche risposto al nostro ovviamente qui non verremo più con sono io che non voglio gente come voi e sinceramente mi viene da ridere. Immagino credesse che volevamo mangiare gratis ma ahimè noi quello che consumiamo siamo abituati a pagarlo. Molto scortese e stizzosa, per fortuna che il proprietario è intervenuto da vero locandiere capendo che anche le critiche possono essere costruttive. Abbiamo pagato il nostro conto con la prima bottiglia di vino offertaci dal gentile locandiere e siamo andati via. Mi dispiace sinceramente perché mio fratello ci aveva veramente parlato molto bene di questo posto ma le cose evidentemente cambiano.
