Once upon a time in the charming town of Montepulciano, Italy, there was a quaint little farm called Fattoria Pulcino. The farm was known for its beautiful rolling hills, lush vineyards, and delicious produce. But what truly made Fattoria Pulcino stand out was its beloved restaurant, also named Fattoria Pulcino, which was located on the farm grounds.
The restaurant was run by a passionate chef named Isabella, who had inherited the farm and restaurant from her parents. Isabella had a deep love for her family's land and was determined to showcase its bountiful offerings through her cooking.
Every morning, Isabella would wake up before the sun rose to tend to the farm and handpick the freshest ingredients for her dishes. Her menu was ever-changing, depending on what was in season, but one thing remained constant - the use of only the finest, locally sourced ingredients.
Word of Fattoria Pulcino's delectable food quickly spread, and soon, people from all over Italy and even beyond would make the journey to dine at the restaurant. Isabella's rustic and traditional dishes, such as homemade pasta with wild boar ragu, grilled vegetables drizzled with the farm's own olive oil, and slow-roasted meats, were a hit among the restaurant's loyal customers.
But it wasn't just the food that kept people coming back. The restaurant's warm and welcoming atmosphere, with its cozy interior and outdoor seating overlooking the picturesque Tuscan landscape, made every meal at Fattoria Pulcino a memorable experience.
As the years went by, Fattoria Pulcino continued to thrive, and Isabella's culinary skills only got better with time. She also started offering cooking classes for guests, where they could learn how to make traditional Italian dishes using ingredients straight from the farm.
Fattoria Pulcino became a staple in the Montepulciano community, with locals and tourists alike considering it their go-to spot for a delicious and authentic Italian meal. Isabella's passion for her farm and restaurant had truly made Fattoria Pulcino a gem in the heart of Tuscany.
And so, the story of Fattoria Pulcino ristorante in Montepulciano, Italy, continues on, with Isabella's dedication and love for her craft and the land shining through in every dish served at her...
Read moreAfter stopping at one of the Pulcino sisters' store next to San Biaggio church, we were offered a ride to the family farm for lunch and a tour of the grounds. Her genuinely friendly and effusive personality overcame whatever reservations we might otherwise have had and we acquiesced. Sometimes, a spur of the moment, unplanned excursion can be teh highlight of a trip. The farm is a short distance down the road in a beautiful setting, although we never got the farm tour. A vegetarian lunch and a wine tasting were served quickly with no choices or prices offered. It was good, and, at $15 euros per person, only a little more expensive than comparable area restaurants. After lunch, we were prompted to come to an adjoining room to see a 'special project' since we are American. The special project turned out to be selling us overpriced wine, vinegar, olive oil, and other food items for shipment back home. Be warned, the Pulcino sisters are masters of every sales trick in the book (see Robert Cialdini's excellent book, Influence, if you want details). I am still dumbfounded as to how I let myself be hoodwinked since I am normally quite skeptical of tourist-directed shenanigans. The wine tasting, friendly service, and brief cellar tour were certainly part of the equation. Add to that the 'free' gift of dessert wine and biscotti, a private setting with a discourse on the challenges of running a family business delivered ex-cathedra from behind the bar by a Pulcino sister who would do extremely well selling time-share condominiums, and our situation of being stranded without a ride back to town should we disappoint our hosts, and a hefty sale was all but guaranteed. We departed with a $200 bill for a few small bottles of wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar (available in the states, without shipping, for about one-third of the cost) and a valuable lesson. When the products arrive, we'll toast the Pulcino sisters and their excellent products with a smile, knowing at least one family-run Italian business will prosper well...

So you must be wondering how I got here…My husband and I were on our honeymoon and took a bus tour to Tuscany. The tour landed us at Fattoria Pulcino for lunch. I thought the wine was good so I said to my husband let’s look into getting some shipped home. I quickly pointed to a few different bottles and said let’s consider 12. I excused myself to use the ladies room quickly and by the time I came back my husband had already had the woman swipe our card. When I saw it was $1,200 I said to my husband I had no idea the bottles were this expensive I wouldn’t have gone for that (bless his soul…..lol). I immediately went back to the older woman, who I believe is the owner, and said I’m sorry I didn’t know the prices per bottle it’s more than I wanted to spend, I want to cancel this order we do not want this much wine shipped. She raised up her hands and shrugged and said there’s nothing I can do it’s already swiped. Anyone who wasn’t born yesterday knows this is a complete lie. Of course you can cancel the transaction. Our wine order and our address is written on a piece of paper…. I said again this makes no sense you’re claiming you can’t cancel the order. As she’s getting agitated she continues to demand there’s nothing she can do she can’t cancel it or refund me. At this point we’re already late for the bus and have to leave. Once we’re on the bus I call again about cancelling the order and the same woman is refusing saying she will not cancel it. I tell her if you don’t cancel it I’m disputing this charge with my bank, and boy that made her even more mad. She condescendingly said “You’re getting the best wine of Italy enjoy your shipment”. Now at this point I’d rather dump out every bottle of wine in front of her than drink it. I would have bought a few bottles after cancelling the shipment but your greed left you with nothing but a refused shipment and NO business from me.
This is not how you ethically run a business or treat people. Enjoy your...
