Ristorante Villa Nottola — Restaurant in Unione dei Comuni Valdichiana Senese

We had dinner on our first night in Montepulciano at Ristorante Villa Nottola and it was beautiful. Service was friendly and prompt and foods was just as we had hoped - utterly delicious, local produce, simple good Italian food. The duck with fennel is to die for - I even got down to chew on the bones it was so yummy. As that stayed so well we decided to book a cooking course the next day and that ended up being on of the highlights of our Tuscan stay! With Cristiano and Antonella as the chefs and Sabrina as our translator we made cantucci and two different handmade pastas known locally as pici. We had a great time laughing and learning, finally eating our results which Cristiano prepared with two sauces - a Ragu and pecorino e pepe - and drinking the afternoon away. My wife and I ate here as our farewell to Tuscany dinner. It did not disappoint. The staff was fantastic, as was the Steak Fiorentino. I think it was the best steak I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Served on a hot griddle, it allows 2 to split a 1 kilo steak and have it cooked differently as it's finished at the table. Perfect for my wife and I as she prefers well done, and I like it rare as long as it is hot. They have a nice selection of Montepulciano's. This is in the middle of a vineyard, and their vino nobile was very good. We had already had quite a few bottles sent home, or we would have sent a dozen of theirs home. Leider eine große Enttäuschung. Das Restaurant möchte auf edel machen, ist aber schlechter als manch eine Kantine.

Angefangen bei dem unfreundlichen und arroganten Personal, was mehr mir dem Quatschen beschäftigt ist, als mit Gästen. Keine Begrüßung, das Einzige was sie als erstes wissen möchten, ob reserviert worden ist. Das Theater mit Reservierung muss keiner verstehen, es waren an einem Samstag Abend nur vier Tische an ganzem Abend belegt (nun, nach unserer Erfahrung, wissen wir jetzt, warum es leer bleibt).

Ein Glas Wein wurde von der Bedienung kaputt gemacht (war noch voll), sie hatte es gegen leeres Glas ausgetauscht. Keine Rede von neuem Wein oder anderer Art der Entschuldung. Der Wein schmeckt übrigens hier gut.

Das Essen kann leider die Unfreundlichkeit und die Disinteresse des Personals nicht wettmachen. Das Fleisch schmeckte sehr fade und wurde sehr lieblos serviert. Es wurde nur das Stück Fleisch auf den Teller geknallt, ohne jegliche Salat Dekoration oder Ähnliches. Der grüne Salat für 5€ ist übrigens ein Paar gezüpfte Blätter von Eisbergsalat. Einen gemischten Salat oder Ähnliches sucht man hier vergebens.

Zum Bezahlen muss man zur Theke gehen (da sich die Bedienung für Gäste wenig interessiert), um wieder zum Tisch geschickt zu werden, um wiederum zwei Minuten später zu erfahren, dass man mit Karte nur an der Theke zahlen kann.

Insgesamt eine sehr enttäuschende Erfahrung, weder der Koch noch die Service-Kräfte verstehen ihr Handwerk. Sucht euch zum Abendessen etwas anderes aus, der Lokal hier ist anscheinend zu verwöhnt und an zufriedenen Gästen nicht...
