We visited the hotel as part of a walking tour of the Apennines, this hotel is situated almost in a cul-de-sack with a road that goes no where except to a forest refuge and woodland.||The hotel has a feel of a mountain hotel - the name means something like old mountain hotel we were told a few days later... The restaurant area is lined in wood and feels very much a home in the mountains.||The family / staff were all very helpful, with various levels of English going to excellent - much more than you have a right to expect this far from the usual tourist places.||The food was excellent. They had provided an electric kettle in the bedroom and this acknowledgement of English habits showed the little touches that they put into everything to make your stay perfect. The hotel might be old but the people running it are clearly listening and learning all the time and trying to make it as great a place to stay as possible.||There are reviews/articles on the wall from English journalists such as Janet Street-Porter from visits in the past. I don't know if they are available on-line ( I doubt it..)||The rooms were basic but contained all you could want, and ours (and ours was almost over the river, with the sound of the nearby waterfall near the end of the hotel where there is an outside area where we experimented with some of the local beers that contain chestnut - a local speciality.||We were provided with a packed lunch each day as we went walking in the mountains, and they had taken the unusual step of producing a short menu of tested popular options.||As promised - there was no chance of playing us Jazz at Dinner... ||Very much enjoyed our stay with these charming, warm and friendly hosts in their...

Meal consists of three courses then dessert then cheese. ||Be warned - there are no menu choices (unless you have specified vegetarian in advance) and I know some people have difficulty with this. Personally, I think it is a wonderful way for a restaurant to operate as it gives the Chef the ability to plan the menu for the day and produce it to a very high standard much more efficiently. Higher quality and lower price - what's not to like?||Wide range of cheeses, home-made (on the premises home-made) ice cream using a vintage, proper job ice cream machine, home made raspberry jam that oozes with taste, picnics that surprise and delight.||The red Lambrusco is a real wow and is produced locally. Not expensive and unlike anything you will get back home, wherever home is.||As far as the accommodation is concerned the beds are very comfortable, the ensuite facilities clean and up to a very good standard. The views from the back of the building towards Casteluccio are astounding.||All the people working there are brilliant. Communication can be a challenge but not for long - sign language goes a long way and everyone is unfailingly pleasant, polite and helpful.||Can't wait...
