Locanda Belvedere — Restaurant in Valeggio sul Mincio

Very nice place, I have ben eating here since I was a kid (40+ years ago). Excellent first dishes (try the "tortellini nido d'amore", the tipical filled pasta dish from Valeggio, you will not be disappointed I promise!); and then there are the second dishes, especially the grilled meat which is excellent. In the old times you coul get a grilled rooster but now they don't serve it any more; but everything else is currently in the menu (chicken, beef "costata", "Fiorentina", etc.) is a treat. Amazing place, it is a must visit if you want to experience local cuisine. It is pricy but reasonable for what you get. It's not the kind of place where you drip in with "sweatpants" it is fairly high-class but not overly super fancy.

Staff was friendly even tho the English skills were minimal. The menu was in Italian thanks to google translate I was able to pick out a meal I wanted without playing "roll the dice".

Sono venuta in questo posto un fine settimana con un gruppo di amici. Eravamo in tredici e devo dire che il tavolo non era apparecchiato al meglio: avendo messo due capotavola, da un lato del tavolo una persona non aveva di fronte nessuno quindi guardava il muro. Sarebbe stato meglio mettere sei persone da un lato, sei dall’altro e un solo capotavola secondo me. Come antipasto abbiamo preso tre salumi misti (salame, pancetta, crudo, bresaola e giardiniera) e tre salame e pancetta con polenta. Se qualcuno ci avesse avvisato che nei salumi si riproponevano salame e pancetta probabilmente avremmo deciso di prendere qualcosa di differente. Io ho assaggiato la bresaola che è stata di mio gradimento, così come la giardiniera. A seguire abbiamo preso o un primo o un secondo. La carne nulla da dire: perfetta. Saporita, morbida, sia il filetto di cavallo, sia la tagliata di manzo con rucola e grana. Contorni buoni e c’è anche una grande scelta, peccato però che non ci fossero le patate al forno. Secondo me non avere le patate al forno da poter abbinare a un buon piatto di carne è un peccato. Per quanto riguarda i primi abbiamo preso dei bigoli al sugo di lepre e dei tortelli di zucca. Quando sono arrivati al tavolo, dalla forma mi sembravano degli angoli e non dei tortelli, ne ho assaggiato solo uno, niente di particolare. Dolce discreto. Buona...
