Without Google Reviews we would never have found this amazing eatery hidden in the side streets of a suburb. Of Catania. And when you see a restaurant overflowing with locals in Italy. Rest assured it must be good. We arrived at around 13.00hrs without a reservation and the restaurant was jam packed with diners and buzzing on a Saturday afternoon. The incredibly gentle manager asked us to have a seat and some drinks for 15-20 minutes and he would be able to accommodate us, which he did. The atmosphere of a busy restaurant with whiffs of amazing sea food is so refreshing that we could have just sipped wine and still be satisfied. But the Gods of Fish were smiling and we had the opportunity of sampling the wares of this incredible establishment which has been open for a year now. The antipasti could also have been enough, full of flavour, freshness and adorned with Lemmon and olive oil- simply heaven. The fresh bread that kept on coming was essential to mop up the amazing sauces prepared so professionally and served with passion. At this point, with a second bottle of Insoglia ordered, we had to prepare ourselves mentally for the simplicity of the main courses, which showcased the skills of the chef and his team in nudging the taste out of the plates without overdoing it in any way. The swordfish steak was sublime , the king prawns just perfect and the grilled calamari inimitable. I do not have enough praise for the individuals behind this enterprise. Il titolo della mia recensione più appropriato sarebbe: “ha deluso le mie aspettative”

Spinti dalle ottime recensioni ci decidiamo a prenotare con una famosa app qui un sabato sera qualunque; all’entrata troviamo una confusione enorme e un fragore di gente e camerieri intenti nelle loro mansioni. Pur essendo in 4 conferma due bambini e nonostante ci siano tavoli liberi non prenotati (lo noto dalla mancanza della nota consueta sul segnatavolo!) veniamo fatti accomodare in un tavolo piccolo e quadrato in mezzo agli altri. Ma andiamo al cibo e al servizio. Dopo un po’ di attesa ci viene proposto un apericena spiegandoci che si tratta di diverse portate di pesce riguardanti gli antipasti alla carta con porzioni ridotte. Riceviamo, in due giri di servizio, dei set quasi tutti FREDDI e dal gusto dolciastro coperto dalla cipolla in agro dolce dei mix di tocchetti di pesce spada e altre fritture… mai mangiato pesce così insapore….

La cosa per me comunque più grave è stato non comprendere il mio desiderio di una porzione a parte di spaghetti allo scoglio che, contrariamente a quello che mi dirà alla fine il cameriere, da menu devono contenere le VONGOLE altrimenti le chiami in altro modo.

Ci portano invece due mezzi primi di un sugo lontanissimo a quello dello “scoglio” come lo conosciamo con degli spaghetti scotti… che, a detta loro, si tratta di un inizio come scoglio da dividere in due, per poi (a frittata fatta!) dirci che stavano preparando una porzione a parte di quel primo indescrivibile!…..

Insomma fra apericena e questi antipasti una cena da dimenticare… il bello è che alla mia esternazione della inesistenza delle vongole nel mio particolare piatto di apericena, a differenza di altri piatti di scoglio che ho visto e sentito ordinare dai tavoli limitrofi (pieni di vongole e frutti di mare come da ricetta), mi sono sentito ribattere che nel loro primo allo scoglio le vongole NON CI SONO……… ma allora dico e concludo: nel menù alla carta dovete...

Avrei voluto fare una recensione diversa, tant'è che sono un po' dispiaciuto di come sono andate le cose. Intendiamoci, il locale merita di essere provato. L'ambiente è luminoso e pulito. Le persone dietro al banco sono cordiali ed hanno ascoltato e soddisfatto le mie richieste. Ma ne il sushi ne i preparati mi hanno convinto del tutto. Il sushi seppur ben assemblato e con prodotti di qualità aveva nel riso il suo punto debole, con un forte odore di aceto che penalizzava il risultato al palato. Il wasabi, depotenziato ormai un po' in tutti i locali, qui era farina colorata. Mentre la spatola panata era buona, i preparati come gli involtini di pesce spada e le polpette di tonno, raggiungevano appena la sufficienza. Ci tornerei? Si, perché il posto ha aperto da poco e sono certo che questi ragazzi sistemeranno il tiro e sapranno migliorarsi, hanno tutte le potenzialità per farlo, ma a questo giro siamo a 3 stelle.
