Albergo Ristorante Amici — Restaurant in Varese Ligure

OK so if you want something ultra trendy and faddish, this probably isn't for you. But if want old world charm and courtesy, a chance to take a few moments away from the race, to enjoy really wonderful home style cooking but with the extra touch of a master, then this is the place. It has been owned and run by the same family for over 250 years (so it's 100 years older than the Italian state). The town is a delight but Dei Amicis has a charm that is so very rare these days. No matter how bad the day has been, a meal here will draw the sting and somehow the world will be put to rights.||The rooms are small but very clean and totally adequate. The staff (nearly all family) seem almost a little shy, diffident but utterly charming. They have run this business successfully through good times and bad and they have survived. They do what they do and if it's a little old fashioned - well, why not.||We have been going to eat here for some years and it is always excellent. We have only stayed a couple of times. ||The cooking is Varese Ligure, in that the Montenara style has elements of the Liguria sea and the hearty country of Emilia. The anti-pasti are imaginative and interesting, the first courses excellent a bit more classic and with Varese Ligure's own particular pasta. Very good second courses, often with organic options. Desserts a delight. Personally, I often go for anti-pasti, primo and dessert, skipping the secondo - I can't really manage four courses these days.||If it were to be my last meal on this earth, I should want to eat...

Dont look for sophistication, it is not the good place. It is just authentic and charming. The rooms are very clean and confortable, the eating room is old fashion and very charming. We stopped in this albergo because it quoted in the italian slow food directory . We were very satisfyed of the quality of the food : the cima was fabulous , fresch pasta were so good than that was difficult to stop to eat. The village of Varese in liguria is also a very nice place to stay.||We will return as for its authentic food as for thr courtesy...
