I cannot speak too highly of this place.
Firstly, the view is lovely amd the drive up there fun (something like 15 hairpin turns), though I'd advise doing it in the daylight the first time.
We stayed one night and had a room with a small balcony and a view. The room was rather basic, but absolutely what we expected for the price. We were well looked after and really enjoyed the place.
Now, the restaurant. It's incredible. The portions are plentiful, flavours delicious (even orange and chocolate pasta as a savoury dish!) We really couldn't fault anything on our plates but were particularly surprised with the generousity with the truffle! For the two dishes we ordered that had a competent of truffle we were offered fresh truffle on top (and why would anyone say no to that?!) Both dishes came covered!
We were slightly worried that we'd missed a hefty truffle surcharge on the menu, but there was nothing on the bill when we got it the next morning at check out.
Just over 100 Euros for 2 starters (large plate of carpaccio covered in truffle and bruscetta covered in panchetta), 1 pasta (beef ragu ravioli with oranage and chocolate - this worked but portion was a little small for our intention of sharing it between 2), 2 mains (escalope and pigs cheeks covered in panchetta and truffle), 1 desert (essentially a tiramisu, very good) and 1L wine.
If you're in the area I highly recommend a trip up here for dinner. And whilst you're there, you may as well stay over and wake up with a view of the lake from...
Read moreWe came to the very same hotel we stayed about 8 years ago during our honeymoon trip to Italy and we fell in love with it.
The hotel and the restaurant are located in a picturesque village of Veleso, overlooking Lake Como. We had a spacious room on the top floor with the balcony (it is my impression that all rooms have balconies by the looks of it) where you could sit in the evening, have a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset.
The food was amazing, Marina and her husband were making everything for guests to feel like at home. On our previous visit, we saw a gorgeous rosemary bush in the corner of the garden and asked for a twig to bring it back to the UK and plant it. Instead, the hosts presented us with a flower pot with a live growing rosemary - such a lovely gesture.
Frankly I do not understand some negative reviews left by some people - this is so much contrary to our experience.
One word of caution perhaps is that roads leading up to the village are narrow and it is best to take a smaller car - although this is true for Italian...
Read moreWe used the public transport bus up through the mountains to reach this beautiful hotel. The hotel is at the end of an old town with magnificent, old town narrow streets. The locals were so very welcoming even though we spoke no Italian. When we reached the hotel we were given an extraordinary welcome by the owners. We were shown around the beautiful hotel by the proud owner. The room was comfortable with a balcony with magnificent, breath taking views of the mountains and lake. The Jacuzzi was a fabulous modern touch to the hotel! The rooftop sun lounge area allowed us to enjoy the sunshine and the views. ||Chef Paolo is an extremely talented chef and served us some of the best food we had ever eaten! I highly recommend all desserts on the menu!! Breakfast was also tasty and conveniently served. The entire staff team are extremely accommodating in any way possible. They want to ensure that you have the best stay possible in their area! They went above and beyond to help us when we had missed the bus to Como! Thanks again and we will...
