Puntarenas Salento — Restaurant in Vernole

We visited Puntarenas in San Foca because we wanted to spend a relaxing day by the sea in a place where we could also enjoy high-quality seafood with a stunning seaside view. The restaurant is beautifully located right on the beach, giving a truly immersive coastal dining experience. We started with a swordfish carpaccio that was incredibly fresh and flavorful, showcasing the excellent quality of the fish. Then we ordered two pasta dishes: one with cherry tomatoes and swordfish, perfectly balanced in taste and texture, and the other with shrimps and cherry tomatoes, served as delicious tagliolini that were simply outstanding. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed throughout our lunch. We highly recommend following the waiters’ advice about the freshest fish of the day, as choosing wild-caught fish instead of farmed options makes a remarkable difference in the overall culinary experience. The restaurant turned out to be quite a disappointment. The calamari I ordered were rubbery and tasteless. The fish was no better – instead of tender, juicy meat, it was like chewing on rubber. Of all the dishes, only the grilled vegetables and wine were decent, though nothing special.

The service, however, was attentive and polite, which was a bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming experience. Unfortunately, the quality of the food didn’t live up to the expectations I had based on earlier positive reviews. It seems that random tourists are served a lower quality of fish, which is hardly encouraging for a return visit.

L’altra sera decisi di recarmi insieme alla mia famiglia a mangiare al ristorante Puntarenas che era stato raccomandato da più persone per la qualità del pesce. Eravamo sicuri di poter trascorrere una serata tranquilla gustando del buon cibo. Una volta arrivati e seduti al tavolo però la cena inizia a prendere una brutta piega. Dopo un po’ di minuti di attesa ci arriva il menù sul tavolo e iniziamo a leggerlo ma nel giro di 30 secondi spunta al tavolo la figura che ha rovinato la nostra serata, il caposala. Senza lasciarti il tempo di leggere il menù arriva a prendere gli ordini e non è finita qui..a quanto pare a lui non importa niente di quello che tu hai voglia di mangiare perché con molta insistenza cerca di scegliere lui i piatti per te. Purtroppo il suo non è un consiglio dei prodotti più buoni ma ha questa volontà di imporsi assai fastidiosa. Dopo aver assaggiato gli ottimi antipasti della casa è l’ora della portata principale. Arrivano i primi due spaghetti alle vongole (che sapevano più di sale che di pasta) e con ben 10-15 minuti di ritardo arrivano gli altri 3 piatti in modo scaglionato. La ciliegina sulla torta è stata il contorno del tonno che non arrivava più. Dopo aver chiesto un paio di volte al caposala si accorge di averlo portato lui stesso al tavolo vicino al nostro, così chiede a loro (che nel frattempo ne avevano mangiato una parte) se lo volessero perché altrimenti lo avrebbe portato così com’era al nostro tavolo. Ormai il piatto di tonno era stato divorato e il contorno è arrivato dopo altri 10 minuti al tavolo, un dessert praticamente. Nessuna scusa e nessuno sconto da parte del caposala per i disguidi. Tutto sommato il cibo non era male (tranne lo spaghetto alle vongole in cui era palesemente scivolato il sale) peccato sia stato completamente rovinato dalla totale invadenza del caposala.
