エルコンドル — Restaurant in Abashiri

An amazing experience. Out of nowhere!!

In August 2023 I was on the trip around Hokkaido. Stopping at Abashiri Railway Museum was on my wishlist so I pulled over. I was filming the old train that stands next to the cafe when I heard some music. So I followed the melody and realised that it was coming from this cafe. I stood at the door and to my sadness it said, “CLOSED”. It was already past 17:00. “Come in” a man from inside waved at me. It was the owner with his friends who were playing South American traditional music. They were about to leave but I requested if they could play “Sake Yo” which they did. We chatted for while in my broken Japanese. They were surprised to see someone from Pakistan.

Recommended to visit. Enjoy coffee, music, history and very nice sea view.

2014.7月に寄せていただきました。小生が昭和51年に乗車して車窓を眺めていた湧網線は廃線となって細い道路にかわっていました。その元卯原内駅の地に鉄道記念館(感激！)が設置されており、その中のレストランがエルコンドルです。小生一人だったのでご主人と奥様にいっぱいお話をさせていただきました。ありがとうございました。美味しいハンバーグ定食をいただきました。店内にはケーナを置いておられ、かつご自分で制作しておられるとのこと。感心しきりでした！店名の由来がよくわかりました。 店内から風景を見ながら網走湖、能取湖、サロマ湖を列車で通過した思い出が蘇ってきました。 廃線になるとこのような記念館は中々維持していくのが難しいとは思いますが是...
