Important: when driving, don't go onto the ramp! Follow their signs with a cute logo. Both google and apple maps took us onto a main road that continued through the mountains. It took us a while to turn around.
Oyako-an was beyond our expectations! We were in the area trying to find somewhere to eat during Golden Week, and I happened to find this place on google maps with high ratings. The ratings do not lie, we loved our experience here!
First of all, this place is very foreigner-friendly. The menu also is in English. For a place that's quietly tucked away in the mountains, it was surprising how much English they knew. For Golden Week, it was surprisingly not busy so we enjoyed talking with everyone there. The service and hospitality was so warm and amazing!
Next, the food. Wow! It was too good. We ordered the yakiniku set and the wagyu steak set. The Asso wagyu meat tasted GREAT! And as a set meal, I was really happy with the meal altogether. The side dishes were so carefully picked, it was one of the most balanced set meals I've had. Every single part of it was delicious. This was one of my favorite meals I've had...
Read moreWe found this place by the high rating on Google maps and it is beyond our expectations! Food is extraordinary good. Taste original with the use of local produce ! We had Takana ( Japanese vegetable) fried rice and Aso beef steak set, Beef is ranked as A5! Not just the beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked but all the sides are full of surprises as well! The original steak sauce taste so good that we purchased a bottle! I never knew Takana fried rice before but now I know it's something I want more. Would recommend everyone to have it. The owners of the Oyako-an are very friendly and welcoming too! Would definitely come again if I visit Aso again! A lot of signs showing the directions of the restaurant along the road too.
Looking forward to the next...

TL: We saw high ratings on Google review and decided to drive there for lunch after visiting Mt Aso. We reached there while questioning ourselves if we were in the right place as it was tucked behind some fields.
We got the steak and yakiniku sets and were blown away by the food quality. Steak cubes were literally melt in your mouth and the miso soup was hearty. They also served us their version zenzai that had cheese in it and that was super delicious as well. We also had a refreshing pineapple vinegar drink that helped to digest the food.
Service was really good and made us feel right at home even though we were the...
