I wouldn’t recommend visiting Usagidaira Kitchen. We decided to try it because my kids were excited by the pictures of pizza near the end of the gondola. Unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing, especially considering the price!

The pizza was over 2800 yen, which immediately seemed way too steep. I expected a large, freshly made pizza for that price, but it wasn't so, the taste was average at best, definitely not worth more than half (or even a third) of the price elsewhere. The fried chicken and fries were somewhat more reasonably priced at 1300 yen, but still on the expensive side for what it is. The final letdown was the corn soup, 700 yen for a tiny cup of what tasted like instant soup you could get for 40 yen. Couldn't believe it.

Altogether, we paid 4800 yen (everythint you see on the picture) for a very underwhelming meal. If tourists are willing to pay that much in their country, that’s their choice, but I don’t think places like this should take advantage of customers, it doesn't work like this in Japan. It left me feeling like we...

This was the best place to eat imo when I compared it to the on mountain food at Tsugaike, Iwatake and Hakuba47. Their Shinshu specialty fried chicken bowl for y1,450 was the best chicken I have had the whole week. In fact the rest of the mountain food was that bad, I especially came back to ride this mountain, just to get this lunch again. Anyone from Sydney that likes Kyushu's chicken terriyaki will feel challenged with this Shinshu dish. I think it was better than Kyushu. The on mountain price too is so reasonable. The cash register servers are slow, so your dish may go cold while you wait to pay. There was cutlery along the waiting line so I just started eating. Also this place accepts card which again beats the other mountains (which required cash). Good partitioning in the tabled area too, so the perspex can act as a guard from the neighbour sneezing/coughing. To date my eating experience at Hakuba has been underwhelming. The Shinshu chicken dish at this restaurant has been the highlight of my trip!!! It is that...

Usagidaira Terrace – Mid-Station Spot with Great Views Located at the mid-station after taking the Happo-One lift, Usagidaira Terrace is a nice resting point with restaurants, a café, and a rooftop terrace to enjoy the scenery. It’s also the connecting point if you want to take another lift up to the top stations. I highly recommend grabbing a coffee from Starbucks — it was really good! The food was just okay. Visiting in Summer 2024, the terrace was lush and green with a cool breeze. Coming back in Autumn 2025, the red foliage made the views stunning, and the chilly air gave a completely different feel to the walk and terrace experience. 🌿🍂
