Kamenos — Restaurant in Hiji

My husband and I stayed for a week at Kamenos Resort's apartment, a fabulous, beautiful and comfortable place to stay (booked on AirBnB). The apartment is located high on a hill and the views from the balcony over the bay are amazing. The apartment is luxurious and modern with traditional Japanese accents. With a living room, tatami room, study room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom (shower and traditional Japanese bath) and separate toilet, it's very spacious, and super clean. The location is perfect to explore the gorgeous area: Usuki stone buddhas, Mt. Yufudake, onsen and Kunisaki are easily reachable. The owner Junko-san, will make sure you have everything you could wish for and as if that's not enough, she cooked us a delicious breakfast one morning with all local produce. Went to Kamenos for breakfast. The breakfast selection was quite limited, but it was quite good. We had the chicken sandwich and beef pie. But i would just go there for the coffee and the view. The owner was friendly and very attentive. She tried to have a conversation and gave us suggestions on what to visit in Beppu. We had a good time and it’s worth a detour into the mountains.

What a find! Absolutely charming little cafe/gallery/guestroom up on the hill outside of Beppu. The cafe overlooks the bay and incorporates the elements of nature in its design beautifully. The girls (and mom) took excellent care of us and each meal they brought out was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend! Can't wait...
