Woodpecker — Restaurant in Inawashiro

I was touring on my motorcycle in the area and suddenly realized I was really hungry. I found this place on Google Maps and popped by for lunch on a weekday afternoon. At the time, I was the only diner.

They seem to specialize in pretty expensive steaks and cuts of meat.

I ordered the wagyu beef curry, it comes with a small side salad. It was really good, but perhaps a bit more rich, oily, and expensive than I would prefer. But the fact that it was 34°C outside probably didn't help—too hot for curry!

The interior is nicely, if somewhat eccentrically, decorated. Tables look like they are slices of giant tree trunks (not sure if that's the case or if they are assembled from several pieces of wood), and "chairs" are stools made from smaller tree trunks with fake fur pads placed on top. At my age, I prefer a proper chair with a back, but you take what you get.

Also notable is the very nice-looking vintage hi-fi stereo equipment. The restaurant also sells some cakes and homemade jam. I bought a jar of jam as a souvenir, but haven't tried it yet. Staff was super pleasant and service was good.
