My favorite sushi restaurant, not only in Kesennuma, but in all of Japan. Coming in to dine here always feels like coming home. Order your favorites, pick from the menu, or ask the chef to make you a recommendation. Come in for lunch for a meal that's affordable and delicious, or drop in for dinner for a taste of the best sushi that Japan's premier fishing port has to offer.
If you make a reservation in advance, you can name your budget per person and ask for a dinner course which includes a variety of the best dishes of the season. Regardless of when you come in, you can always rest assured that every meal is carefully crafted with fresh, local ingredients.
Master Chef Kato spent time living and working as a sushi chef in Australia in his youth, so even if you can't speak Japanese, you won't have a problem ordering here. If you sit at the sushi bar, you can hear stories of his travels, his experiences during the 2011 tsunami and his thoughts about the future of the city.
If you're coming with a group, and you reach out to the restaurant in advance, it's also possible to do a sushi-making experience here. (Depends on restaurant availability) Learn what makes sushi in a port town different, and see what it takes to become a master sushi artisan.
I truly can't recommend this place enough. If you're going to be spending any time in Kesennuma at all, you must...
