Yamayo — Restaurant in Kisarazu

4.5 / 5.0 - We came to Yamayo for dinner after an afternoon of shopping at the outlet mall nearby.

It’s an anago (conger eel) specialty restaurant and I can see why it’s so popular. It’s a no frills restaurant, with traditional tatami seating—sitting on cushions on the tatami floor, taking shoes off. The service was ok—we had to ask them to wipe the table they lead us to and ask them a couple of times for more water. But the anago tempura was absolutely delicious and so cheap! Even for dinner, the sets were only 1,500 yen (which is $10 with the current exchange rate, as of Nov 2023).

I ordered the Anatenju Set, which came with 2 huge pieces of crispy, delicious anago tempura and a few vegetable tempura on rice. The set also included miso soup, tofu and Japanese pickles. It was quite a filling meal.

これ程お手頃価格で、これだけのボリュームのある定食はなかなか無い気がする。

お昼の時間帯だったので更にサービス価格に。

柔らかな煮アナゴと、小ぶりだがアナゴの天ぷらが乗る天丼。 そのどちらが味わえる定食は珍しいかも。

広島の宮島の持ち帰りしたアナゴ弁当の価格と同じだなんて…。 この定食を、あの店の者に見せてやりたい。笑

店の方もこちらは皆さんすこぶる感じが良い。 商売を分かってらっしゃる。笑 最初から最後まで笑顔と、丁寧な応対。 素晴らしい。

柔らかく似られた穴子と、サクッとした歯応えの天ぷらに、各々用意された甘めのタレが好みの味で更に美味しく頂けた。

そのタレも客が自由に加減出来るよう、定食と共にわざわざ各卓へ持って来て下さる。 甘口でタレを多目が好きな者には、それが嬉しい。

店は少しばかり雑然とした所もあったが、それもこうした魚料理屋の風情と思った。

帰り際も、女将さんがありがとうございました、とにこやかにお声掛け下さった。

※駐車場が砂利なのが残念だが、多くの台数が無料で停められる。

"I feel like it's quite rare to find a set meal with such a substantial volume at such an affordable price.

Since it was during lunchtime, the price was even more reasonable.

The set meal includes tender simmered conger eel and a small but delicious conger eel tempura on a bowl of rice. It's unusual to have both of them in one set meal.

It's amazing that the price of this set meal is the same as the take-out conger eel bento from Miyajima in Hiroshima. I'd love to show this set meal to the people at that restaurant.

The staff at the restaurant were all very friendly. They understand how to run a business.

They greeted us with smiles and provided attentive service from beginning to end. It was wonderful.

The tender and flavorful conger eel, along with the crispy tempura, tasted even better with the sweet sauce provided separately for each.

The staff even brought the sauce to each table along with the set meal, so customers can freely adjust it. It's a nice touch.

The restaurant was a bit messy, but I thought it added to the charm of a seafood restaurant like this.

It's a pity that the parking lot is gravel, but many cars can park there for free.

everytime i go to costco supermarket in kisarazu. I often visit the restaurant for lunch. I feel great because I can eat well and then have the energy to go shopping. When going at noon, it is usually quite crowded. But here the service staff is very quick. I'm very satisfied. I usually choose 穴子天重アナ重 スペシャル定食.
