This is the main store of this small chain ramen shop, which hopefully is now one of my new favorites.

Muttepou offers only two varieties of ramen, tonkotsu and soy sauce broth soups. Of course, I opted for the tonkotsu chashu ramen with an egg at 1050īŋĨ. You can request the noodle texture, broth thickness, and amount of green onion. I prefer my noodles soft with lots of green onion. I asked for the heavy broth and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint at all. The ramen came shortly after I sat down, since they took my ticket whilst I was in line. And it was glorious. The sight of fatty pork fat barely melted in the thick, savory, delicious soup was absolutely heaven. The soft, albeit a bit thin, chashu and soft noodles disappeared in the deeply heavy soup. I had a glorious time consuming it all slowly, savoring every umami bite.

I suppose if I wanted to nitpick, the only noteworthy letdown was the egg, as it was a bit overdone and not strongly flavorful. But a minor complaint compared to the rest of the experience.

I highly recommend you try this ramen restaurant if you are even remotely in the remote countryside of Kyoto or Nara, as it is well worth the price and long lines. Despite waiting an hour in the cold spring rain, I welcome the chance to do it again next time. There are also other Muttepou shops scattered around; mainly the one near Namba, Osaka, is most convenient to...

There are also other Muttepou shops scattered around; mainly the one near Namba, Osaka, is most convenient to most travelers.
