Southern Maid Cafe - Maebashi — Restaurant in Maebashi

After a couple disappointing donut-related experiences recently, I happened to find myself here during a road trip….hoping for redemption.

This is a shop that actually has its roots in Texas, unlike other shops that falsely make the same claim.

Their glazed donut is a perfect regular flavor (they aren’t pictured because we ate them too fast before I could take a photo), and it’s the best glazed donut I’ve had in Japan. Not too sweet.

When we visited, there were about 17 flavors available at decent prices with no annoying lines. Also had 焼きチーズカレー for lunch. They also have sandwiches with donuts as the bread, which I wish I had tried. I also wish it wasn’t 2 hours...

Thanks to the likes of other donut shops in Japan, like Mister Donut, I came to this shop with unfairly low expectations. However, to my surprise, the donuts were delicious, the atmosphere was Starbucks-y, there was free WiFi and plenty of seating.

I’ll definitely be going back in the future, whether it’s for the affordable and filling lunch set, or just to have a coffee and a donut while reading a book or...
