Obanmai-shokudo — Restaurant in Miyakojima

This is like a little tiny mini Tsukiji market by the sea. It is quite small and a little bit run down but the fish there is extremely fresh as all of the staff actually go out to catch the fish themselves.

If you want fresh seafood for a reasonable price.

The star of the show for me though was the stall at the the place also sales Okinawan Tempura. If you've never had Okinawan Tempura before, it is 100 times better than the typical Japanese tempura.

It is like a soft and fluffy batter dipped tempura instead of the crunchy bread crumb type.

In Okinawa the tempura is also quite CHEAP ( usually from around 50 Cent to $1 a piece) but best of all IT TASTES SO GOOD!

Another delicious canteen style food place. Friendly staff and good view out of the window on to the docks and the sea. The special thing about this place is the fish comes from the boats if they go out fishing. When we went the katsuo fish boats didn’t go out due to choppy conditions. You need to order & pay first before you can sit down. I like this kind of system and thankfully they provide english menu. It was like eating in a cafeteria.
