Uh oh, it's my "daily driver." I feel like that's an appropriate term considering Japan's car culture. That means this place is something you can rely on every day, and you know it works, and exactly what you're getting.
If you want an authentic Japanese breakfast experience, this is the place. The regulars have the places filled no later than 30 minutes after it opens, and it opens early - 7 a.m.
The reason I gave the atmosphere four stars is because it's so authentic. It still has a smoking section with Vegas style air fans to pull the smoke out, and that can be off putting for people from countries that banned this setup awhile ago.
Outside the smoking, they stock daily newspapers, books, and magazines, so it's obvious they aren't trying to rush you out of the door.
In the smoking section, you actually eat on decommissioned Mahjong arcade games as tables, so Japanese... and the coffee set is also classic.
Like many other things, the Japanese strive for efficiency in breakfast, so you'll need to be briefed on how this works. A lot of people opt for 7-Eleven breakfast on the go, so cafés often have specials for people that sit down for coffee, and here is no different.
When you order coffee, you get one full-sized cup, a soft boiled egg, and toast so thick it proves everything is not bigger in Texas (it gives Texas Toast size envy).
The idea of all the being to compress a long drawn out breakfast into something quick that has the same nutritional value. You get your day's carbs, fats, and sugars in only three items, it's actually pretty cool.
The staff is beyond friendly, and seemed to not care too much that I don't speak any Japanese (almost none, but that's a long story). After multiple visits, they actually decided to interact with me outside of service, which made me feel honored.
I'm Japanese culture talking to strangers isn't very common, so to have the managers and patrons go out of their way to communicate with me is pretty cool.
Before I left I had to stop by for lunch because I really could give a food review based on boiled eggs and bread. I chose to come back for lunch near the end of the trip and order a hamburger.
I'm not sure what it takes to qualify as a burger, but served without a bun, and with spaghetti, made this borderline spaghetti and meatballs. It didn't really matter because it was delicious. There's also a fried egg that comes on the plate, so mixing everything together really gives you a great flavor.
By the end of my trip I'd probably drank coffee here for 14 days straight, and every day was exactly the same in a very good...
