Yayoi Sushi — Restaurant in Nakadomari

In this writer's opinion, this quaint restauramt may be one of the hidden gems of Japan. I highly recommend adding a visit to Yayoi Sushi in the itineraries of any tourist who is adventurous enough to go to Tsugaru. The restaurant is located roughly a kilometer away from the Tsugaru - Nakasato Station and is easily reached by walking. Don't worry about getting tired when walking to the restaurant as the food is 100% worth the effort. The restaurant is run by a couple who is very accomodating despite the language barrier. Their menu, although hand written in Japanese, is easily translatable through Google Translate. But don't even bother doing that as I can tell you right now that all you need to order is the Ramen Set Meal (Ramen Teishoku). The set meal, worth 1000 yen (before it was apparently only 800 yen) consists of a ramen of the owner's own blend with pork as well as 10 big sushi. It is already apparent by the way I'm raving over this restaurant that both are delicious especially the shimp sushi. 大人の休日倶楽部の旅で来ました。早朝新幹線で大宮を出発し、津軽五所川原からはストーブ列車で津軽中里へ。大半の人は金木で下車し、中里まで乗車した中でも、さらに10分ほど歩いてここまでたどり着いたのは自分一人。 列車の折り返しまで1時間のせわしないランチタイムでしたが、幸いカウンター席には誰もおらず、ラーメンのランチと、お酒をオーダーすると、お通しはでっかい白子が、10分もたたないうちに寿司も出てきて、まことに贅沢な酒宴のはじまりでした。 飲みやすい酒で、思わずお調子はおかわり。〆に頂いたラーメンも少し甘いスープで、ほろ酔いの胃袋に優しく染みました。 お勘定はしめて1500円。寿司だけ食べてもそのくらいかかってもおかしくありません。 ただ、大将と地元の人の会話はほとんどわからなかった。やはり津軽はちがうな、と思いながら、駅までの道のりを酔い心地で歩きました。 上りの折り返し列車を待っていた他の旅行者たちが昼に何を食べたのかわかりませんが、ストーブ列車では運良くストーブ真ん前の進行方向窓ぎわに座れたし、1時間の折り返し待ちで、酒と肴、寿司とラーメンにありつけた自分は、なんと幸せなんだ、と思わずにはいられませんでした。 帰りのストーブ列車もストーブ前の席に座れたので、スルメを焼きながら、一杯やり...
