Bakery Cafe Penny Lane — Restaurant in Nasu

Penny Lane’s bakery and restaurant in Nasu is in the woods, and is very cool, with tons of Beetles memorabilia, a huge outdoor wooden deck and terrace for outdoor dining, and the section of breads and other treats is fantastic. But Penny Lane has a problem… Fleas!!

Penny Lane is surrounded by pet- (particularly dog) friendly establishments. A large percentage of customers and local residents, as well as vacationers, bring their dogs with them. When we visited Penny Lane on 4/9/2022, it was warm and sunny and there were dogs everywhere. After purchasing several types of bread, we proceeded to eat on the outdoor terrace that seats bakery customers. We were there for about 30-40 minutes.

Upon returning to our car, I noticed 3 red spots on my right leg and another on the left, which were already very itchy and a little painful. Fleas LOVE dogs, and they also hid in gardens and yards, particularly around wooden decks and woodpiles.

Penny Lane has (or HAD, on 4/9/2022) a flea infestation. I was wearing shorts that day, perhaps a bad choice. I recommend that, if you visit Penny Lane in Nasu, you wear long-legged pants or high-socks. The bread is great, and it’s a very nice place to relax - but you might get bitten. I visited on a weekday morning and it was already bustling with activity; you can expect even longer lines on weekends. Unfortunately, the chiffon cake and coffee I ordered didn’t meet my expectations. This might have been due to the number of new staff working in April, which seemed to affect the service quality.

However, if you’re on the hunt for Beatles merchandise, this place is a treasure trove. With a wide variety of T-shirts and shirts available, any fan would find something to love. While the food might not be the highlight, the merchandise alone makes it worth a visit for enthusiasts.

Great Bread, But Be Ready for the Crowd!

Stopped by Bakery Cafe Penny Lane in Nasu on a Saturday afternoon. The curry bread was the real star—crispy, flavorful, and just perfect! Everything else I got was delicious too, though the melon pan was a bit too sweet for me, with a lot of sugar on top. It reminded me of something I’ve had from a convenience store or supermarket, so it wasn’t as special as I hoped.

The outdoor vibe is really nice and chill, perfect for relaxing with a coffee. But inside? Super tight space and pretty crowded. I had a hard time picking what to get because people were lining up really close behind me, waiting for their turn. You basically need to decide what you want before you even get to the bread section. no time for browsing!
