One of my favorite kinds of fine dining is the kind that combines elegance, skill, atmosphere, and mood without making you feel awkward if you’re not extremely formal.
This restaurant is a stellar example, blending traditional Japanese kaiseki with a modern omotenashi style in a contemporary Japanese setting. It’s a true hidden gem in Nasu-machi.

Read more歴史ある別荘地の那須には、なぜか質の高い懐石の店がない。那須でこれだけのレベルの和食店の存在は貴重。 こちらのご主人は大阪の吉兆(おそらく高麗橋)などの名店で修行され、ご両親が経営されてる蕎麦石心の隣にこちらの店を開かれた。オープンまで準備期間2年は京都花背の名店美山荘で働かれている。 美的な空間、美しい器、那須ならではの食材を完璧なハーモニーで提供されていて、吉兆や美山荘で学ばれてきたことが遺憾無く発揮されているようだ。 サービスも温かくとても居心地が良い。 今回が初めての訪問で¥5000のランチを頂いた。一品一品に独自のアイデアがあり丁寧に手をかけていて、慈しみたくなる料理。 私自身は仕事で京都に500回以上通ってきたので時々は名店の料理を頂く機会もあった。京都の懐石には華やかさや食材の贅沢さを競う印象があるが、こちらのご主人はその頂点を知りながら華美でなく那須ならではの滋味を求めているように思う。 これから何度...
